"...it's just stress...building up for a long time..." Cas barely mumbled the words out. Now the panic had passed, and he was left exhausted and droopy-eyed.

"I can imagine." I said, sitting next to him. "But I think, now that you're calm, we need to talk. About everything. Not just things you're comfortable with."

He looked up at me. "Like what?"

"Like...where are you going to live? How are you both dealing with the divorce? Why have you been so confusing?"

"I already told you. I'm living with Ben for the time being."

"You really think that's a great plan?"

He nervously fidgeted with his hands. "He's been very respectful." he finally said.

"I wonder why." He stared in disbelief.

"What? Listen, I really care about you, but you really screwed up."

He took a couple deep breaths. "And I feel horrible. I had never cheated on anyone before. I didn't think I ever would."

"But?" I pushed.

"But... I was unhappy. And I didn't want to say anything." He locked his hand in mine. "But then I met you. I felt so guilty about the way I felt about you. It was dangerous, it felt like walking on air when I was with you. When I had first realized I made a mistake with Ben, I told myself I would take those feelings to my grave. But I just can't."

I thought for a moment. It made sense, but I knew it was no excuse. I had to ask him.

"Cas...you need to make a promise to me."

He looked into my eyes. "Yes?"

"If we're really going forward with this, I need you to always be honest with me, and about what you want. And I will always be honest with you."

"Dean," he squeezed my hand, "I promise."

_-_

Going back to school the next day was like being thrown back into the hurricane.

Two students were waiting outside my door, neither of which I had in my classes.

"Uh, you girls need anything?"

"Amara texted us to go ahead and take you to the art room..." said the first girl. "We haven't really had the chance to speak to you, my name's Clare, and this is Angie."

Angie smiled shyly.

I decided not to ask what was going on, both of these girls looked pretty nervous. But when I arrived at the art room, so did Charlie.

"Good morning, Ms Bradbury." said both of the girls.

"Charlie, what's going on?"

"An apology." Piped a female voice. We all turned around, and sure enough, it was Amara.

"You really do have a flair for the dramatic." I chuckled.

"Guilty...but seriously. I-we- wanted to apologize. You remember those rumors a while back, about you and Mr Novak?"

Son of a bitch. "Yes, I do." I crossed my arms.

"We started that accidentally..."

Angie interrupted, "We never meant to be cruel. It started out as a joke between the three of us-"

"I was such a dumbass."Clare sighed. "I made this comment around Mack, we were dating at the time, and he and his friends took it way out of control."

"Mack, the boy who was harassing you?" I asked Amara. She was leaned against the wall, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, that idiot."

"He asked me how to hack into someone's phone." Charlie admitted guiltily. "I had no idea, Dean. He told me it was for a prank on his friend."

I didn't know what to feel. Anger? Betrayal? Hurt? I had just gotten clear with the situation with Cas cleared, and now this. It's fucking embarrassing.

"Thank you for telling me." I finally said. "But I would appreciate it if you all gave me space for a while."
