staring at plastic screens
can hurt your eyes, especially
when you stare at one as long
as I have.
But the trouble is that
no matter how long you stare
at the plastic screen
with its plastic words
the words do not change -
neither does your feelings,
and so you are stuck,
eyes glued to a plastic screen,
heart thumping at extraordinary speeds
How come it all seemed
so real when
it was all good? -
when the words were flying across this bright screen,
a flourishing of ideas (and love)
How come it all seems
so fake when
it's so bad,
when now the screen says that
you've blocked me,
in bright, bold letters
ACCESS DENIED
but we both know that
those two plastic words
mean more than that -
No, you have done more than deny
me access into your words.
No, what you have done
is denied my heart.
what is should really say
is not "Access Denied,"
not when it really means
Love Denied.
