Averna walked into the back room and made a bed for Akina. She opened a basket and took out a folded blanket and wrapped fur to be used as a pillow. Akina leaned on the door frame watching Averna sort through her bedding.
"All ready for you" She said placing the last folded blanket onto the bed by the window. She smiled and turned to Akina, "I've left the window open as well just so you know that I trust you" she rubbed her arm looking at the moon through the open window. Akina didn't say anything, she stared at her and continued leaning on the door frame.
Averna smiled, "If it gets chilly during the night, feel free to close it. No running away, I expect to see you at sun rise" she winked walking to the door where Akina was still stood. Akina slowly approached her bed and picked up the top blanket then forced a smile for Averna, "thank you."
She sat down on the bed and looked up at Averna who was fiddling with the hanging curtain that separates their rooms, "what happens tomorrow?" she said quietly in the moon lit room. Averna smiled putting her hand on her hip "well first we must continue your training."
Akina sighed leaning forward so her arms rested on her knees, she brushed her knuckles on the inside of her leg, "then?" she asked looking at the floor where her rucksack was.
Averna looked over at Akina's shadowy figure on the other side of the room, how her long dark hair shimmered in the luminous moon light. "Then you'll be ready for the journey, but enough talk you must rest, have a good sleep my niece."
She watched as Averna disappeared behind the curtain into the next room.
Akina exhaled, laying back onto her fur pillow and looked out the window. She squinted her eyes at the misty mountain palace in the distance. Dori. She felt guilty for leaving. All her life she's never had a home- a place (other than the palace) that was permanent. Everlasting. So being away from the palace wasn't anything emotional.
She pulled up her blanket with both hands and lay them on her heart. She tilted her head up and exercised a slow breath "goodnight Dori" she whispered then closed her eyes and waited, eventually falling asleep.
~The Next Morning~
It was an early start to the day. Averna plaited Akina's hair into a rope braided hairstyle once she was dressed. Then Akina followed Averna outside and together they walked through the village. The hot sun heated Akina's arms and the sandy roads burned at her sandals.
This was no regular village, everyone Akina passed looked at her with glowing eyes that were just as intense under the blazing sun. Her pupils lessened in size at the sight of luminous creatures both flying and walking around the village. She couldn't believe her eyes- there were so many animals, so enchanted and grand.
"Here we are, this is where we train" Averna said walking Akina through a fence onto the grass lands that was surrounded by a gaped mass of trees. Akina blinked activating her powers- her eyes glowed red and she felt her pixie scar burn on the inside of her forearm.
Averna blinked her eyes a burning glow also then swirled her hands to a 4 fingered focus then pushed forward summoning her wolf pixie scar out. It glowed the same intense green as Averna's eyes in the daytime, its sharp features sent a shiver through Akina making her take a slight step back.
"Don't worry Akina, Yara won't hurt you, she's a sweetheart really" Akina smiled back at her "Yara?" Averna leaned down stroking her wolf then smiled up at Akina, "yeah she gets her name from her enchanted green fur and her fairness as well as ferocity when pushed to encounter."
"That's amazing, can all pixie scars come out like that?" Akina asked as Averna stood up about to give her instructions. "Repeat what I did by focusing your energies and moving your hands in a circular motion then when you see a glint of pixie dust push your hands forward releasing those captivated energies."
Akina nodded then closed her eyes tight in concentration and followed what Averna had said, she pushed forward shooting her eyes open. Nothing. She frowned with disappointment then tried again a number of times. But nothing kept on happening, she groaned full of frustration then sat down on the grass.
Averna smiled then handed Akina a handkerchief, she took it and wiped the sweat off her forehead then took Averna's hand and stood up.
"Try again, but remember your powers are attached to your emotions so don't get too frustrated if you don't get it straight away" Averna said leaning over the edge of the stream squeezing out the washed handkerchiefs then hung them on the tree branch.
Akina scratched the back on her neck "why? Because it's dangerous, is that the reason you acted the way you did with Kalaya?" she glanced at Averna challenging her to answer, Averna looked out at the mini waterfall sighing then looked back at Akina "I'm sorry."
"I'll try again" Akina simply said shrugging then narrowed her eyes at her hands in front of her as she swirled pixie dust into focus. She breathed deeply keeping the concentration intact as the focused pixie dust grew bigger, Averna's eyes widened with shock as Akina groaned and the ball of pixie dust continued to grow bigger...bigger then Averna's!
Kalaya watched from among the trees nearby. Akina let a breath out and pushed hard swirling a huge wind of pixie dust into the air. Kalaya and Averna gasped and stared wide eyed at the huge cloud of pixie dust as it then sprouted wings. It took shape once the dust had settled and turned into a giant swan which landed in front Akina majestically.
