Chapter 11: Awakening

Melanie POV:

"Did you hear that?" Luke and Percy.

"Yah." They responded.

"Chiron! We heard her!"

Dark.
Dark.
Too dark.
Night?
But birds?
So day?

No. No no no no no. Think!! I urged myself.

I had to get up. Percy and Luke were counting on me. They needed me. They were counting on me.

But I had to concentrate. Awakening. This dream wasn't a dream. It was a perception of reality. And I was standing over my barely-alive body.

Luke. Percy. Grover. I'm coming for you.

Luke POV:

"Chiron! We heard her!"

Both Percy and I shouted. Percy was getting more and more on my nerves. Even more now since Melanie had been in the infirmary room. He held her other hand.

"Percy. Get off of my-uh-Melanie." I had no idea what she was to me. And Percy had first claims to her. He did see her first. If only I'd volunteered to go out recruiting with Grover. She wasn't officially "free" until she got claimed though.

And Percy had a much better chance of not being her sibling.

"Luke. Stop being a creep. She's my friend too." He bent down to her side. And put his ear to her chest. I wanted to punch him.

"Shut it." He said looking at me. "I can hear her heartbeat. It's almost normal now."

"Then get your face off her." I turned red.

Percy just chuckled and sat in the chair next to her bed. Still holding her hand. "Jealous much?"

"Yah. Actually."

He smirked. And I turned back to Melanie. I sat in the other chair. Chiron galloping in behind me. "I heard her too." Geez, all the way from out there? Chiron had left to walk in the forest.

Chiron spoke again, "She's coming back boys. She's already forming conscious thought. I heard her project."

"What did you hear?" I asked him.

"'Luke. Percy. Grover. I'm coming for you.'" He answered.

I grinned. My name was first. But Percy's name was there too. And it was defiantly on my nerves. Well, at least I didn't have to worry about Grover. Thank the gods for Juniper.

I rested my hand on her cheek and waited.

When she woke, I watched her blink herself back into reality.

Melanie POV:

Luke was there. In front of me. And I couldn't be happier to see his face. I jumped out of my hospital bed and grabbed him into a hug.

It wasn't until we broke apart that I saw Percy. Heartbreak on his face. I grabbed him into a hug too. He was grinning from ear to ear.

Chiron cleared his throat, "We need to ask of you some questions Melanie. If you don't mind the timing."

"I don't mind at all."

He nodded. "Who attacked you that night?"

"The girl in cabin eleven with me. The other unclaimed one." I answered truthfully. "But she had glowing eyes and looked like she'd been though a war, her armor was completely torn up and she looked possessed." I looked back to Luke. "When I was unconscious, I....dreamt....of her. Of what happened before she attacked me. A hellhound was circling her and it morphed into this....man. He said he was Kronos. And he.....melded....with her body." I said very quickly. As soon as I said his name, thunder rumbled in the sky.

Chiron's face, as well as Percy's and Luke's, was grim. "Chiron, this is an effect of the war last summer. Isn't it?" Percy asked.

"Yes. Yes it is."

Percy and Luke turned back to me. "The war last summer was fought against the Titans Krios and Atlas. The and a few other siblings of Kronos. They're far less powerful than he is, but we still lost good people in the war. Selena, the Aphrodite head counselor was taken prisoner and somehow forced to carry the weight of the sky. It killed her and after we imprisoned Atlas back under the sky."

"We lost so many. But we saved New York and the rest of the world that day."

"So how is Kronos back? Isn't he supposed to be in.....Tartaurus?" I sat back down on the medical bed.

"Yes, but apparently he escaped. Probably an event of the war's aftermath. The bonds on his cage must have loosened."

Chiron turned to look at me. "If this is true, we are all in grave danger. Kronos will try to resurrect his true form, and annihilate all that we know of this world."

"You need to have an audience with the gods, to validate the claims and inform them of the escape." Chiron ordered, pacing the infirmary floor.

"So we have to go to New York City." Luke turned to look at me from across the van. "You'll love where we're going." He grinned.
