He sat in his throne which was pure white and trimmed with a golden trim. His right hand balled into a fist supporting his head. His left hand outstretched grasping the rounded end of the arm of his throne, tapping his fingers out of boredom. "Isn't there anything to do?" He asks calmly. He stands up, a man by the name of Lance. He wears white clothes that are trimmed with gold; tall, shin-high boots, slacks, a vest, white undershirt, a small dagger on his waist, and a white cape. He walks to the back of his throne room and stands on the balcony that faces the kingdom. He places his hands behind his back and stares off into the horizon. "It's hard to be an isolationist country and gain the favor of all the other countries when that pathetic excuse of a continent called 'Tartarus' is still ruled by that sad excuse for a man." A soldier in white chain mail holding a spear and shield steps forward and replies, "Sir, I don't think anyone will think any less of us if we do attack them because of their reputation. We could say they killed one of our generals and we saw it as an act of war." Lance laughs, "It's not that simple, I'm sure that Leo will use his strong voice to convince the people that we are just picking on him because the god of light was jealous of the god of shadows." Lance mentions Leo's voice because his is a little shaky and not as deep. "But sir isn't that why you hate them in the first place?" Lance slams down his fist on the stone guard of the balcony, "I will not have one of my own men question me! Yes, I hate them because of that exact reason, because as the reincarnation of the light god I want his power gone so those scum can't survive. I want to crush those who serve under the shadow god for their insolent ways. They think that he is the better one just because he is benevolent and kind to all those people who follow him, but the reality is that he is just a push-over. I am the one that should be reserved in the spot among the gods, but apparently someone has to figure out something to be accepted by the gods." "Sir, isn't that a little childish?" Lance turns around and stabs the soldier with his dagger. "I will no longer be questioned by insolent, impotent people!" The guard drops to the floor dead within seconds.
Another soldier comes into the throne room and interrupts the moment. "Sir, we have two reports from our generals. One is about the seek for your 'Holy Artifacts' and the other is about the general that took Leo's place and kidnapped the girls." Lance turns around and walks back into his throne room and sits down. "Tell me about the second one."
"Well, the man we sent there was successful in getting into power for a short time. He was also successful in kidnapping girls and torturing them and making people think badly about the Tartaruseans. One problem though, our spy reports that he saw Leo come into town. He talked to the four men that went in with him and found out that he had shot a wave of black fire from his arm killing the four men who we sent with our captain, and he also placed his hand on the captain's head and sent him into a nightmare that actually killed him."
"Well, that's one loss that we won't suffer from. Now, tell me the report of my artifacts."
"Well sir, we sadly didn't find anything in the halls of the gods. All we found were tablets with something like a riddle on them."
"Riddles huh? Perfect, you figured out everything I wanted to know and confirmed all my beliefs. It's time to set out and search for the others." Lance walks out the door of his marble castle and through the streets of his town. No one in the town is out of their houses to greet the king because he is not followed by his entourage. He walks up to the port and down the dock to his personal boat. He boards it and knocks on the captain's door. "Set course for Pyro."
After a few days of sailing they get to Pyro. He steps off the boat and walks through the town and into the woods in the center of the island that lead to a giant volcano. Lance gets halfway through the woods and several men jump down from the trees. "Hey boys, look at 'Mr. Fancy' walking through here like he owns the place." A large man steps forth from the group. His muscles show off his tattoos. The man walks up to Lance and looks down. "You sure are a little thing aren't you?" Lance thinks to himself, "Maybe to him I am small but of coarse he is two shafts tall." (A shaft is the measure of five feet indicated by the size of a spear shaft.) The large man interrupts Lance's thoughts. "Come on wimpy boy, let's fight." The man crosses his giant scimitars and creates sparks as he brings the swords down, rubbing each other. Lance draws his sword and prepares to engage the giant man when an arrow flies in from the right and lodges itself deep into the man's skull. Two of the four men that were part of the giant man's group ran off to the right to chase after the arrow. The other two drew their swords and rushed Lance. He blocked one with his dagger and kicked the other one back. As the one he blocked jumps back and rushes him again he ducks down and flips him over his shoulder. He touches the side of his boots and two daggers emerge from the bottom. He runs and jumps onto the chest of the man he just threw and did a back flip to remove the daggers from the man's chest. The man he had previously kicked got back up. Lance slid to the left grabbed the man's arm, threw him in the air, and flipped forward slicing the man in half with the dagger in his boot. He hears two thuds a short ways off and a rustling in the trees. A young girl wearing a red blouse and tights jumps down from the trees. She pointed her bow at Lance's forehead. Lance just stood there looking at her. The girl dropped her arms and asked, "Who are you? You don't look like you come from around here." Lance bends down and retracts the daggers in his boots. "I'm looking for a girl by the name of Sarah."
"That would be me."
"I ask you to join me on my quest for some magical artifacts."
"Sure, I hate living with these annoying people anyway." Lance and Sarah walk off towards the volcano. "So, are you a soft guy or mean and cruel?" Sarah asks Lance. "I like your straight forwardness. I'm secretly cruel. I'm devising a plan to destroy a god."
"Wow that is cruel. I like it." Lance chuckled at her response and kept trudging up the mountain. They get to the top of the volcano and jump down into it. There is a ring of ground around the bottom of it surrounding the lava. "The temple I'm looking for should be in the cave on the other side." They enter the cave at the other side of the volcano and come across the six statues of the gods. In the back was a statue of a man in pure white armor next to him was a man in pure black armor and continuing forward going left from right was brown, green, red, then blue. "Please step on the circle in front of the red statue." Lance asks Sarah trying to hold back his excitement. She steps onto it and chants, "Oh god of all elements, Isabella, I bring forth the powers of fire to unlock the ancient artifact I seek for my elemental war." The base of the red statue opens and reveals a white plate mail. Lance equips it and they head for the exit. Lance and Sarah quickly get out of the volcano. "Well thank you for aiding me in my quest, if you want to join me you are welcome to." Sarah nods her head and replies, "I would love to help you take down a god." They walk off toward the port and hop on the boat and head off to Erathia.
