Being a college freshman, Sawamura Daichi was supposed to live in one of the campus dorms as a requirement. Being a university meant that the campus was large. Not only that, but the onsite student residential areas were scattered all over the campus.
And being the idiot he was, he had already parked his car in the student garage instead of keeping his belongings in the car and driving around to find his residential building.
Plus, it was the middle of August, so the heat was beating down on his black-cloth-covered back, making sweat drip down his neck as he pushed his cart piled with move-in boxes.
Unfortunately for Daichi, he had accidentally gone to the wrong dorm building. So guess who had to walk from the end of the campus to the middle in order to get to his actual dorm? That's right. Sawamura Daichi, one of Norishika University's new first years.
When Daichi finally arrived at the correct dorm building, he glanced at his form to make sure he got the right location. Since there were eleven other buildings on the campus, he was bound to get confused easily. After reading the name of the building on his sheet, he looked back up at the dorm sign. Akiyama Commons, yes this was the one.
With a sigh, the former Karasuno captain pushed open the doors of the building to view a crowded first-level lobby. Instead of cool, blessed air conditioning that Daichi was hoping to notice first, he noticed a large sea of move-in carts pushed to one side, and the main desk had four or five students behind it, shuffling papers around as they frantically tried to find their own papers. The majority of the students were moving boxes up and down the stairs, since the two elevators that were available for the dormitories were continuously being used and filled by new (and fellow!) Norishika University students.
Upon seeing the chaotic scene in front of him, he gulped. The former Karasuno captain's nut brown eyes glanced around for any assistance before falling upon a familiar silver-headed boy. A smile spread on Daichi's face as he wheeled in his cart whilst calling out his friend's name.
"Oi, Sugawara!"
Almost immediately, the silver-haired male turned his head to see his former high school volleyball teammate. "Daichi!" Sugawara greeted. "You finally made it, huh?" Sugawara gave Daichi a bright smile as he jogged over to help him with his belongings.
The darker-haired male rolled his eyes as he started to move his boxes off of the cart and onto waiting Sugawara's arms. "Yeah, yeah. I accidentally went over to Usagiyama Commons instead of Akiyama's," he explained with a tired chuckle. "And then I had to walk for ten minutes with this lug under the hot sun!"
"Jeez, seems tough, Daichi!" Sugawara laughed. "Usagiyama? Isn't that where Oikawa and Asahi are?"
That most certainly perked the brunet's attention. Daichi pastures briefly as he began picking up his own boxes. "Oikawa and Asahi are here?" Daichi wondered aloud.
Certainly Daichi was sure that he was one of the first people to move to Norishika -- most other students weren't even expected to move in until next week.
Sugawara nodded as he headed towards to the stairs. "Yeah, a lot of people are attending school here at Norishika!" Before continuing any further, Sugawara stopped moving at the base of the stairs. "By the way, did you check that sheet on the wall by the front desk?" The hazel-eyed boy asked, nodding his head in the general direction.
Daichi knitted his eyebrows together and looked up from his pile of boxes in his arms. "Hm? What's that?" He asked as he neared the sheet.
"Those are the room listings," the former setter replied. "It has the room number, floor, and community bathroom that you're assigned to. Do you know where you are yet?"
"Hm..." Daichi hummed as his dark eyes scanned over the columned sheet. Near the top, he spotted a few familiar names -- they were other Karasuno graduates, but they weren't all that close (well except for maybe Shimizu -- he was surprised that she was put into this Akiyama Commons, but then again, every commons was co-ed). It wasn't long until he found his name near the middle on the left side of the paper.
Sugawara let out a sigh and walked over to Daichi. "So? What does it say?" the silver-haired boy asked.
Daichi's voice was clear as he read off his name. "Sawamura Daichi, Year One, Room Forty-Three, Floor Four..." His eyes squinted to read his new roommate's name. "Ushijima Wakatoshi?! He's attending Norishika?!"
The wing spiker gulped. The ace spiker, Ushijima Wakatoshi. The ace spiker that was featured in dozens of volleyball magazines, always interviewed in specials. Daichi was going to not only be roommates with him, but if they both decided to join the volleyball team and officially become the Lawful Deer of Norishika, they'd be teammates.
The simple concept of them both being on the same team frightened and exhilarated Daichi. Frightened because of the sudden power that his team would be sharing but also because he wouldn't be with all his high school teammates. And exhilarating because one of the strongest volleyball players in the country would be on his team.
Sugawara looked at him questioningly. "What? You didn't know?" Daichi furiously shook his head, and Sugawara chuckled smugly. "Haha... I think I forgot to text you the details about that--"
"You think?!" Daichi just shook his head as he stepped away from the sheet of paper, heading over to the stairs where students were still hustling and bustling. "You never even told me that there would be a bunch of other former rivals here."
His silver-haired friend, on the other hand, simply smiled and said, "Oh, cheer up Daichi! Ushijima can't be that bad." There was Suga's positivity, hitting Daichi like a cannon to the head. The brunet couldn't help but smile at Sugawara.
"Right," Daichi nodded and continued up the stairs to the fourth floor.
As they passed each floor, Daichi learned that each floor was crowded as always, and that each dormitory building had roughly 60 rooms, with five floors each. Most of the dormitory buildings were community-styled, with a bathroom having to be shared by every 7 or 8 people. On the ground floor, there was a break area/lounge room, as well as a community kitchen and storage lockers for items that weren't supposed to belong in their rooms, like bikes. Each floor was split into two: one side was for girls, the other for boys.
Soon, the two former Karasunos made it to the fourth floor. Though Daichi had hoped that it wouldn't be as packed as the other floors, this was no exception. Sugawara lef the way to Daichi's dorm room, having been familiar with the layout of his own fifth floor (being at room 52). At the end of the hallway, one of the closest dorms to the boys' bathroom was the room forty-three that Daichi would have to live in for the rest of the year with Ushijima.
Daichi gulped as he neared his new room, wondering if Ushijima was already there. He didn't want to start off on the wrong foot with his new roommate and (hopefully) new volleyball teammate. When they arrived in front of the wooden off-white door, Sugawara rapped on the door to announce their arrival.
A moment passed.
Then a tall figure with a huge build.
Ushijima Wakatoshi.
Ushijima Wakatoshi with dark, olive-brown hair and olive eyes and tan skin. Ushijima Wakatoshi who was currently holding an alarm clock in his hands. Ushijima who was wearing the Norishika volleyball jacket of dark blue, white, and gold--
Wait, Ushijima who was wearing the Lawful Deer's volleyball jacket of dark blue, white, and gold?!
