It was over seven months since you had seen your husband Fenris...
You found out that you were with child shortly after joining the Inquisition...but Fenris was still in hiding and he was guarding Isabela and Merrill to make sure they didn't do anything stupid...
Messages were hard to send when you had no idea where the would-be receiver was located...
You sat in the Great Hall of Sky Hold with Varric, reading over his notes on the children's book that he was writing for your little one. You chuckled at one line where a "glistening white Elf" was dashing into the blue to save his (hair color) haired princess.
"Varric, I believe this should be the other way around," you smirked.
"What do you mean? This is pure gold- a classic in the making, Y/n!" Varric defended his writing.
"Yes...but I would prefer being set on fire to wearing a dress...and Fenris would never wear a lace trimmed doublet...try a darker prince who's saved by a swashbuckling lady knight..." you paused in thought, "...with great hair, draped in white, pearl and silver armor, contrasting to his black, blood stone and gold attire," she added with a smirk.
Varric's lips flattened into a line as he listened to this and then he hummed in thought for a moment before nodding and looking down to edit his work, "The noble knight of the Free Marches, battles against a dragon who took her kingdom's prince captive, then turned him to the dark with an evil spell...but once the dragon was defeated, the knight slowly broke the spell and taught the prince how to love..." Varric read aloud after a bit of writing, "This will be the corniest crock of sh-" the author's chuckle was cut off as the doors of the Great Hall burst open and the bellowing voice of the knight's prince erupted into the room.
"Where is my wife?!" Fenris shouted in anger, he hadn't bothered to notice that you were actually in the room as he saw poor Cullen first, rushing up to him as you just sat and snickered. He gripped the Commander by his fur lapels and shocked him, "Tell me, Knight-Captain! Where is Y/n?!" he demanded to know and Cullen just cleared his throat awkwardly and pointed to the table in front of a small fireplace, where you and the Dwarf sat in a fit of giggles.
Varric had to help you to stand. Fenris was about to rush you, to sweep you into his arms...but then, he saw your large, eight month pregnant belly under your long tunic. He was frozen on the spot.
"Y/n...?" his eyes were wide and his mouth agape...he had no other words than speaking your name.
"Hello, love," you said with a smile that seemed a cross between elation, sheepishness...and nerves, "I...have a surprise...!" you spoke nervously as he began taking very slow...very calculated steps toward you.
"You-...You're pregnant...?" Fenris asked with a voice that cracked, but he didn't care.
"...Yes...the healers say that I'm due in a month...I meant to write- honestly- but Varric said that he couldn't find you and...I can't exactly go running about Thedas," you explained meekly and Fenris now looked directly at your belly.
Fenris swallowed hard, "Is-...is he healthy...?" he asked.
You smiled as warmly as you could to keep him calm, "It's a she...and yes, she's doing wonderfully," you said proudly and Fenris' lower lip dared to tremble for only a moment as he reached you and came to kneel in front of you, a reverent look on his face.
"It's a girl...we're having a girl...? It's a girl!" Fenris said with a growing, child-like excitement that made him feel a hundred years younger. His hands barely rest on your belly, a ghost-like contact that was tender and careful.
"You're not angry...?" you asked in slight surprise as your eyes began to water.
Fenris snapped up to his feet, his hands coming to cup your face delicately, "The love of my life is having my child...how could I feel angry?" he asked in gleeful outrage, "...I-I'm going to be a father..." he whispered those words for the very first time and he chuckled like a teenager, filled with light.
"I love you, Fenris..." you whispered and he grinned like the sun.
"I love you, too...both of you..." he said with passion before kissing your lips tenderly, "...and I always will," he whispered between kisses as the heat of them grew. You grinned into the kiss.
You had missed his kiss...
(This first one was short and sweet, but I'll have more imagines up soon enough!)
