 Elijah told us the truth about where Rebekah had gone. The hex on her arm had reappeared, and she had convinced Elijah to dagger her. That covered the family part of the prophecy, so that the rest of us could trust each other more easily. I must say, I felt proud of her for making such a sacrifice. But once the enemy had been defeated, we would free her.

 As it so happened, an old friend of Klaus' (I had no idea there were people that liked him besides his siblings) had arrived in New Orleans: one Stefan Salvatore. And he seemed to be in some sort of danger.

 I sat nearby as Freya examined him. Studying his face, I realized I'd known from my time in Mystic Falls (a story for another day). Apparently, he was being chased by an evil huntress who, upon hearing what she like, actually reminded me of myself. Before I gave up being a murderous lunatic, that is.

 Freya gave him some kind of magic paste that would block the signal from his scar (that was how the evil huntress tracked her victims-I should have found a way to come up with something like that). As she applied it, Stefan looked over at me. His brow furrowed. "Didn't Klaus kill you, years ago?"

 "I have a way of reappearing," I replied. I glanced around. "Freya, where have your brothers gone?"

 "Probably off to kill people. That, or they're plotting deaths."

 But I still had the feeling that something was wrong.

~~~~~~
 Turns out I was right. Elijah and Klaus had been taken hostage by the Strix.
 Lucien Castle, of all people, informed us that the Strix had recruited Davina Claire (and here I thought the girl was smart) to perform a spell that would break both their sire lines. And then Aya (basically Tristan's second-in-command) was going to put one of Aurora's White Oak bullets in Klaus. If Davina was not able to complete the spell, Lucien, Marcel, and Stefan would all die. In all honesty, I did not actually care about these three people (especially Lucien), but everyone else seemed to.
 The problem was, there wasn't a real plan. Hayley, Marcel, and Lucien were all arguing about how we were going to save the boys. I felt like I wasn't actually included in this conversation. I was going to suggest we go into full-killer mode (basically break and work as a team against anyone who tried to stop us) but no one paid me any attention. Stefan wanted to help as well, but no one seemed to care (I will admit, he did not seem very helpful).
 At one point, Stefan turned to me and asked, "Is this how things always happen around here?"
 "What, the arguing and threatening? That's a daily occurrence here, Salvatore. You'll learn."
 Thankfully, my brilliant daughter had come with a plan. Apparently, the Strix (I hated them more and more) and Elijah and Klaus in some sort of prison world with the de Martel siblings (that meant Tristan, I realized).
 "I have to channel someone or something powerful," said Freya. "Finn won't help me. He wants our brothers to die."
 That actually shocked me. The Finn I remembered would not just let any of his siblings die. But then I realized Klaus had probably damaged his mind. Then I understood.
 I also was not expecting Freya to snap Lucien's neck so she could channel him. Well done, darling.
~~~~~~

 I drove with Marcel, Hayley, and Stefan to where the Strix were plotting their evil deeds.

 "There's a lot of 'em, flying in just for this," Marcel said to me as he drove. "A lot of people wanna see those two gone."

 "How do you know all these things?" I asked.

 "Elijah didn't tell you? I'm the leader of the Strix now. At the time, Klaus told me you were locked in your room crying over Tristan."

 "I was not crying over Tristan!" That might have actually been accurate, but I wasn't going to tell Marcel that. "And why are you the leader of the Strix? I thought you were on our side."

 "I am on your side. Look, I'm going on. Hayley and Stefan are in the back. Stay down and don't let anybody see you."

 Once he was inside, I went around to the trunk and let Hayley and Stefan out.

 "What are you doing?" I asked Stefan as he peeled at the scar. "Do you want the evil huntress to come here?"

 "Yes, he does," Hayley replied. "It's part of the plan."

 How an evil huntress whose name I couldn't remember fit in to the plan, I had no idea. I must have looked utterly confused, because Stefan explained, "This will draw Rayna here. She can distract the Strix, Freya can destroy the sanctuary thing, and we can save your sons. But we have to get going now."

 While evil huntress woman kept the Strix occupied, I went in just in time to see Elijah wake up and start attacking the witches performing the spell. Whatever Freya had done must have worked. But Klaus didn't wake up. I watched in what I believe was actual horror as Davina Claire completed her spell. Elijah ran to his aid, and I heard Klaus say perfectly clear, "I felt them all leave me."

~~~~~~
 Perhaps we should go to something a little happier. Aya was marked by the evil huntress whose name apparently was Rayna, but Hayley staked her before Rayna could kill her. Elijah seemed to actually be sad about this. Why, I had absolutely no idea, but perhaps I would ask him about it someday.
 On another good note, Klaus encased Aurora in a wall of bricks. Alive. I did not feel sorry for her one bit.
 We said farewell to Stefan Salvatore. I actually hoped Rayna the huntress wouldn't kill him. He was one of the good ones.
~~~~~~

 "What did Tristan say when you saw him?" I asked Elijah.

 "Oh, just some hurtful things about how I was a horrible sire," he replied. "Nothing too serious."

 "Did he mention me at all?" I asked.

 "Actually, he did. He said that soon you would be on your way to free him from his imprisonment. That made Klaus angry. I thought perhaps Tristan said it to get under our skin, but I have to know; is it true?"

 "I left him a letter," I admitted, "Telling him that once all this prophecy nonsense is over, I would find and free him, whatever I had to do. After everything that's happened, I love the little demon. I have to save him someday, Elijah."

 "Just not yet," he finished. "I understand, Father. It's the things we do for love. And I hope for both your sakes that Tristan loves you."
