Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.
If only I could get to that clock. I'd rip it straight off the wall, smash it on the floor and stand on all the little pieces. I hated clocks. Especially ticking ones. Who even needed ticking clocks? Who's idea was that? Why do we need to listen to every fricken second of our meaningless lives go past?
Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.
What would that clock say if it could speak? What would I say to the clock?
"Hey, could you shut up? Trying to plan my perfectly executed escape here."
"Oh sure Harley no problem, I'll be quiet and let you think."
But no, it kept on ticking.
Tick. Tick. Tick. Click.
Click? That wasn't normal. It was all meant to be ticks - no clicks.
The heavy metal door squeaked open and an angry looking man entered.
"Gordon, don't you ever wish clocks would talk? They must get so bored just ticking away like-"
"Enough," he said firmly.
The door closed again, clicked shut, and the silent ticking resumed.
"That's peculiar isn't it? I think the ticking actually adds to the awkwardness of the silence," I laughed.
Gordon sat on the metal chair opposite me and folded his hands upon the metal table. He stayed quiet for a long time, just looking at me. He still had that dead look in his eyes.
"What do you keep doing this job Gordon? All it brings you is misery,"
Commissioner Gordon pushed his thick rimmed glasses back up his nose.
"The last time we saw each other, it was over the body of Guy Kopski," he stated, "after you killed him."
"Correct."
His face twitched. It was blatantly obvious how much I bothered him. I guess to him, I'd also killed Harleen. My hands played with the hem of my GCPD t-shirt under the table. Cuffed to the table, and the table nailed to the floor. Blackgate sure was security driven.
"You were also pregnant, if I remember correctly."
Now it was my turn to feel bothered.
"Yes," I spat.
Gordon smirked, "healthy baby was it?"
"Perfect," I lied.
He nodded slowly.
"And these sprees, robbing banks, have fun with that, did we?"
"What can I say, I got bored! And Gotham has so much money just lying around. You'd think after the first few times, they'd increase their bank security, am I right?" I said gleefully.
Gordon didn't laugh. Instead, he slammed a file down before me.
"Let's have a look, shall we?"
