The door creaked a little as he pushed it open, twisting the gleaming knob. Then he disappeared, stepping into a black obis beyond it. Then I watched, or tried to, as the lights flicked on. The first thing I noticed was the kitchen to my right side; it was huge. Large white counter tops, cabinets and drawers lining a wall, a oven and refrigerator lining the other. A island was planted on the other side of the room. Right before the ivory tile turned into ivory carpet. I saw two halls vanishing off to the right and left of the open space.
"Wow." I said dumbstruck."I know, it's a lot, but my mom..."
"Is an extremist?"
"Yeah, an extremist."
"So it's all yours?" He pulled me inside and shut the door. I shucked off my backpack and hoodie, glad for the relief, and dropped then to the ground in front of the inn table behind me.
I circled the kitchen then the living room, the obvious main piece, being a round, glass top, coffee table that was placed in the center of the room. A cream color sectional taking up a wall and half, where to the right their was a pair of huge speakers and a TV. I plopped down on the couch, kicking off my shoes, laid down and crossed my legs, folding my arms behind my head."Yep. My dad owns the building, so technically, I'm not an adult but I'm still living with my parents. They have their own place on the main floor."
"Your parents basically own a bunch of penthouses?"
"I guess, it's the family business sort of. I just have to keep my grades up and remain responsible, and buy my own groceries."
"Wow."
"Umm..." He paused in the kitchen, I raised an eyebrow at him, he looked...unsure. "I don't really have people over that often," he admitted.
"Just your mom?"
"Occasionally my dad."
"So..." In few moments of silence, I watched him, his shoulder relaxed as he leaned over the chair across from me. He really is beautiful, but in different way. He is handsome, inside and out. I've never thought someone was handsome before, cute maybe, sometimes hot but handsome? Nope. Definitely new to me.
His brown hair was a little tousled and I realized somewhat surprised, that it was curled too, usually it was straight. His off setting brown~greenish hazel eyes left me astonished with how much depth they held. Depth that collected over the years. I found myself wondering what he had been collecting from. Then I realized, even in my head I was confusing myself and dropped it."Meow."
"Did...did you just meow?" He shrugged. "That's a new one..." I muttered.
He grinned and shucked off his jacket, then without a word he walked away further into the kitchen. He returned back a moment later holding what I guessed was an unopened bag of two pounds worth of gummy bears. I extended my hand to him and he opened the bag, shaking a few of my favorite candies into my palms. He took the remote off the coffee table and pushed a few buttons, Netflix, written in red over black shown on the screen.
"Anything you want to watch?" He asked.
"Not really. But I am freezing." I was still in my soaked clothes, as cold as ice, should've remembered that before you sprawled across his couch, Amber. I could feel my hair sticking to the back of my neck, still dripping, and I wished desperately for a towel. Walker, must've read my mind, disappearing again, this time he vanished into the closest hallway. When he returned he was holding a large blue T shirt and towel.
"I don't have any bottoms you could fit into, but I have this," He held up the shirt. "And a towel, the bathroom is the first door on your left down there so you can change. I'll bring out some blankets and stuff so you can warm up."
"Okay, thanks Walker."
"Yeah, no problem. Umm...here." He handed the objects to me. "I'll just be in my room... and stuff." He walked off, leaving me alone in the cold and quite space of his living room. I found the bathroom and quickly undressed, leaving on my underclothes, and hanging my jeans and top over the shower railing to hopefully dry a little. Then I slipped on the shirt. It went just between my knees and top of my thy. Not the worst, but definitely not the best. I patted down my face and neck with the towel then rapped it around my hair on top of my head, thank goodness for water proof makeup.
When I emerged from the bathroom I found Walker in the kitchen, leaning into the fridge, his back towards me."Whatcha doin?" I asked, leaning against the opposite counter and folded my armed across my chest.
"Nothing, just looking for...aw, here they are." He lifted a carton of eggs over his head, still facing the fridge.
"And what do you plan to do with a dozen of eggs?"
"Cook five of them and maybe use the rest to...I don't know, cook another time." He shrugged as he pulled out a bag of shredded cheese. Then he walked over to the stove, still not facing me, and pulled out a pan from a cabinet. He turned again, grabbing a bowel. "You need a fork!" He whispered yelled, looking down at the things he had collected on the counter.
"A fork? Why?" I questioned, confused.
"No, not you, I was talking-" Then he looked up at me, his face went blank for several moments before he seemed to reboot. "I was talking to myself." He finished, fishing into another drawer and pulling out a spoon.
"That's a spoon." I told him.
He glanced at the object in his hand, "Oh. Right, I knew that." He placed it back and pulled out the correct utensil this time.
"Fork." He stated."Congratulations, you just graduated pre-K." I said sarcastically.
"Thanks." His ears turned a little red as he continued on his voyage of the kitchen. Without looking at me again, he successfully cooked two plates of eggs, handing me one, with a fork.
"I was half expecting a whisk with my plate instead of a fork." I teased.
"I totally had a blonde moment." He said, making his way into the living room, I followed suit and sat next to him on the couch, still giving him room, I crossed ankles on the ottoman, stretching and relaxing my still sore muscles. I was carful to not pull the shirt up to high.
"Major blonde moment." I agreed.
"Anyway, what do ya want to watch?"
I found a sudden need of disparity,"Jane Erye."
He searched and found it quickly, pushing play, all the while not glancing at me once.
