I walked through the shopping district with my hands stuffed into my pockets. It seemed that no matter how hard I tried to get my life back on track, there was something that always popped up to screw everything up again. What was the point of sending me all that information? I understood that it was to finally tell me the truth, but without knowing exactly how my life was going to be at that point, she had no way of knowing if this information would give me closure or if I would have the reaction that I just had.
Snow had started to fall and the other people on the street scurried to get out of it before the cold really set in. Couples around me huddled together for warmth and my stomach twisted into knots. I wanted Yamato there with me, but I also wanted to be alone. How could I promise my whole being to him when I didn't even know who I was?
As I passed our favorite bakery, I heard someone calling my name from behind me. Turning around, I saw Takuto running up with a smile.
"Hey Lorien! I didn't think I'd see you out running around this late. How're you doing?"
I looked at him, my face blank and I watched as his smile slowly began to fade from his face. Takuto had known me for so many years; not as long as Akito but nearly as long. Considering him and I had dated for nearly the entire time we had known each other, he knew exactly when my mood was not in a good place.
"Hey," he placed a hand on my shoulder, "what happened? Do you want to talk about it?"
Continuing to look at him, I felt the tears rising up against and I had to cover my face to muffle the sounds of my sobs. I could imagine the look he had on his face and I felt terrible that I was breaking down in front of him, but at that moment my emotions felt like they were their own separate being that had possessed my body. He pulled us over to a bench outside a shop and put an arm around my shoulder to comfort me.
"My mother sent me a package," I found my words, pulling my hands away from my face.
"What do you mean? How could she do that?"
"I don't know, but inside the package were documents from my life and a letter... she told me I was adopted Takuto,"
He looked shocked for a moment, but then his features softened and he smiled a bit.
"Yea, but honestly does that really matter?"
"What do you mean? How could you possibly say that?"
"I mean, does it matter if your mother gave birth to you or if she adopted you? I only knew her for a few years, but I know for a fact that she loved you with her entire heart. So what if she isn't your birth mother; she was still your mother,"
"Yea but the whole point is that she never told me about this Takuto. I have no idea who my family is and I have no idea who I am,"
"Don't say that," he shook his head, "you know exactly who you are and who your family is. You know your mother and father, not to mention your brother Kyo. Then there's your fiancée Yamato who I'm guessing is probably freaking out right now since I'm guessing you ran out per your usual. Yea it's sad that something happened that prevented your birth parents from being able to keep you, but that doesn't mean that you don't have a family,"
"But-"
"No buts. You're always telling Kyo and Yamato that they have family all around them, well now it's time that you listened to yourself: you have Yamato, Kyo, everyone at the bar, and me as your family. You had your mother and father when they were alive. Maybe one day you will want to find your birth parents, but don't just throw away the love that Sekai and Toshio gave you,"
