Scary Riddle - The Mountain Shack

Four people got stranded on a snowy mountain in the middle of a blizzard. If they stayed where they were, they would certainly die. With that in mind, they found a mountain shack. The four were short of breath as they rushed into the shack. There was no heating unit in the shack, and the only thing they had on them was emergency rations.
If they went to sleep, they would freeze to death. They knew they had to stay awake until morning. The group leader suggested a game.
“Four of us will each sit in one of the four corners. One person will sit in the middle of the room. Every five minutes the middle person will go to a corner and wake someone up and take their place. That person will then go to the middle of the room, and when another five minutes has passed, they will go to the next corner going clockwise and wake up that person. We will repeat this through the night so we can’t fall asleep.”
The next morning a rescue team found the shack. The four were exhausted but smiling.
“I’m glad to see you’re all safe,” the rescue worker said.
“I thought were were done for until we started the game,” the leader said, explaining how to play.
“…That game wouldn’t work,” said the rescue worker.
