Scary Story - 100th Floor

Four friends went traveling abroad one summer. While they were in a certain large city, they stayed in a famous high rise hotel. Somehow, they managed to get a room on the 100th floor, and they were thrilled with the view.
That afternoon, they went out shopping together. When they left the building, they left their key with the front desk.
“Excuse me,” the receptionist called out when the friends began to walk away, “but I must inform you of the maintenance that will be taking place tonight. From midnight tonight until tomorrow morning, the elevators are being checked and repaired. Please return by midnight if you wish to use the elevators tonight, as you will not be able to after that.”
The four agreed but almost immediately forgot when they left the hotel. They had a great time and ended up returning a bit after 1 am. Just as they had been told earlier, all of the elevators were shut down. They didn’t have a choice, though, and they begrudgingly walked towards the stairs. As they were just approaching the staircase, one of them spoke up.
“Hey, you know, this is going to be really boring. How about we take turns telling scary stories. We can tell a story on each floor, so it’ll just be like the 100 Horror Stories sessions people used to have in old times.”
The other three quickly agreed, and the story telling was soon underway. Before they knew it, they were actually having fun going up each flight of stairs. They completely lost track of the time, and at last they made it to the 99th floor.
“Well, I guess I’m last,” one of them said. “This story is really scary, though. It’s gonna scare the shit out of you, alright? I’m not kidding, either. It’s probably the scariest of all of the stories we’ve told tonight.”
The three started egging him on to finally get to the story telling. They were tired, and realizing they were only one flight of stairs away from their room made their fatigue feel more real.
“Alright, then,” he took in a big breath. “Here it goes. We, uh, sort of forgot to grab the key back at the desk on the first floor.”
