Grayson's P.O.V.
Lacey seems to have taken an interest in Daniel. I guess it's because he's the only who is willing to talk to her. The other two only seemed interested I their phones. I saw her trying to make conversation with them earlier and then she went outside. I guess someone said something she didn't like.
I see her laughing with Daniel and my heart breaks. I know I said I'd back off and let her be happy if she liked one of them, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. I just hope that after she gets married, she'll still want to hangout with me. I know I should tell her how I feel, but I can't. I don't want to confuse her.
"Earth to Grayson."
I hadn't even noticed that Janie had walked up. "What?"
"I said 'hey.'"
"Hey."
"Where were you just a minute ago."
"I was just thinking."
"About what?"
"Lacey. She seems to have taken an interest in Daniel."
"So. Look at her eyes. They don't sparkle with Daniel like they do with you. They're just friends."
"How do you know for sure? I mean they could get married."
"They could but they won't. Lacey is my best friend. I know how she feels about you. Plus, I also know that Daniel isn't her type. They'd be more like siblings than a couple. It'd just be awkward for ten and everyone around them."
"Whatever you say."
Jamie and I continue to talk for quite some time. I steal a glance at Lacey and see that she's now talking to Jeremy. I guess it's about time for her to choose who she's going to spend the rest of her life with. I know I shouldn't be nervous, but I am. I'm in love with her, and the thought of her spending her life with someone else is disheartening.
I'm fixing to say something when I feel a tug on my hand. "What the-" Before I can finish, Lacey's lips are on mine. I immediately start kissing her back.
"What the hell? Lacey, you're supposed to choose one of the men your parents picked."
"No, I don't."
"Yes, you do."
It's my turn to speak up. "Actually, she doesn't, and you know that."
"Grayson, I don't know what you're talking about."
"Don't play dumb with me. You know damn well what I'm talking about."
Lacey speaks up. "The only ones that don't know are Aaron and Kyle. Yeah, I told Cynthia, Janie, and Daniel."
"What exactly did you tell them?"
"The truth."
"We all know that you left out a little detail when you were talking to Lacey yesterday. I decided to tell her the truth. I told her that if she picked her own person to marry, she wouldn't have to marry any of these men."
"Why would you tell her that?"
"She needed to know. She was upset that she was going to have to give her future to some stranger. I thought that since you lied to her, I would tell her what she needed to know."
"It wasn't your place to tell her."
"No, Jeremy, it was yours, and since you didn't tell me, Grayson did. I don't know why you didn't tell, and to be honest, I don't care. What I do know is that I'm going to marry Grayson."
"You can't marry him."
"Yes, I can and I will."
"If you do, I'll take away the label."
Now I'm pissed. "You can't do that to her. The deal was she had to be married by twenty-two in order to keep the label. It never said she had to marry one of them. They're just people that her parents chose. It's not like they're that important. Sorry Daniel."
"No problem."
"Now, we're leaving and there's nothing you can do to stop us. Come on, Janie."
I take Lacey's hand and lead her out to the car. Before I open her door, I give her a kiss.
After starting my car, I speed out of the driveway. I slow down when we get back on the main road. "Lacey, I'm sorry I lost my temper. I just couldn't hold it in anymore."
"It's fine. I thought it was sexy."
"Of course you did."
"Janie, don't be a spoil sport."
"I'm sorry. It's just I didn't get Daniel's number."
"I did. I'll text it to you."
"Thanks."
I pull up to their house and park the car. I get out to open the door for the girls. As soon as Lacey is out, I take her hand in mine. Janie turns to face us after she unlocks the door.
"Guys, Daniel's coming to pick me up. We're going out. Y'all should do something together."
"I'm fine with that. Lacey?"
"Sounds like a plan."
We go inside, and I reluctantly let go of Lacey's hand so she can go change.
"I told you she wouldn't pick Daniel."
"I know. I'm sorry I didn't believe you."
"It's fine."
"So, you and Daniel? How'd that happen?"
"Lacey."
"What about me?"
I turn to see her dressed in a pair of jeans, tank top, and flip flops. I also notice that she took off her make-up. She's beautiful all the time, but when she's herself, I can't help but stare.
"You're the reason that Daniel and I are together. He told me that you encouraged him to ask me out. Thank you."
"It was nothing. I just saw how he was looking at you when you walked in."
Suddenly, there's a knock on the door. "I got it."
I walk to the front door and open it. I see Daniel standing there. "Come on in. She's in here."
"Okay. Thanks."
I move out of the way so he can walk in.
When we get to the living room, I see the girls sitting on the couch.
"Hey, ladies."
"Hi."
"Lacey, I see you've made yourself comfortable."
"Of course. I hate dresses."
"Janie, you look lovely."
"Thank you."
"Are we all going out together?"
Lacey answers him. "No. Grayson and I are going to let y'all spend some time together."
"Okay. Sounds nice, but we should all get together at some point."
"Sounds like a plan."
Daniel and Janie leave shortly after. I turn to Lacey. "What do you wanna do?"
"I don't really care. What about a movie?"
"Sounds good to me, sweet pea."
I hear her groan. I grab her hand and pull her in for a kiss.
"Who's car are we taking?" I guess we could take hers.
"Yours is fine."
"Let me grab the keys."
She walks off towards the hall. She quickly comes back and we head outside. We walk towards her car and she hands me the keys. I open her door for her, and then get in myself.
I'm excited about this date. It's going to be the best date I've ever had.
