Two weeks later
Grayson's P.O.V.
These past two weeks have been a personal hell. It doesn't matter where I go, Lacey is always on my mind. She's the first thing on my mind in the mornings, and the last thing when I close my eyes. She's even in my dreams. I should have known that letting her go would be the hardest damn thing I've ever had to do.
I've seen her around town, but I never talk to her. She always has Kaylie with her. She's such a great mother to her.
Every time Kaylie sees me, she takes Lacey's hand and pulls her away. It's safe to say that she's not happy with me. She'll even stick her tongue out at me sometimes. It's really funny to watch. But the situation with Lacey is not a laughing matter. It's hard to go on with my life when I know I won't be going home to her. I really f**ked up.
I've been staying with my parents for the past couple of weeks. It's not ideal, but there's no way I could stay at that house. It'll only make me miss Lacey that much more. The day she left, I packed up most of my things and went to my parents house. They were understanding and didn't judge me. I just have to take my life back.
I decided that I was going to talk to Jeremy. I'm going to tell him that I'm going to marry Lacey whether he likes it or not. If she'll take me back, of course. I hope she does. My life isn't the same without her.
Lacey is my life. I would do anything for her. The only reason I agreed with Jeremy is because I thought I was doing the right thing. I realized I was just like Jeremy and her parents. I was making decisions for her. I didn't talk to her like I should have. I was an asshole.
I pull out my phone to call Jeremy.
"Hello."
"Jeremy, we need to talk."
"About what?"
"It's a personal matter."
"Alright. Do you wanna come over?"
"Sure. I'll be there soon."
I hang up the phone and put it in my pocket. I pick up my keys and head out to my car. I pull out of the drive and make my way towards Jeremy's.
When I get there, I take a deep breath before getting out of my car. I notice Janie's car sitting in the drive. Hopefully I don't run into her. Every time I've seen her out, Daniel's had to hold her back from me.
I make my up the stairs and walk right in.
"Jeremy!"
"In here."
I make my way to the kitchen. I see Jeremy standing by the counter.
"Morning, Grayson. What can I do for you?"
"We need to talk. It's important."
"Have a seat then."
"I'm fine. I'll stand."
"Okay. Do you mind if I sit?"
"Not at all. It is your house."
"Okay. Now, what's so important?"
"It's about Lacey."
"What about her?"
"I can't stay away from her."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that it's killing me to be away from her. I love her so much it hurts. It feels like I've been living in hell these past couple of weeks."
"I thought we agreed that you weren't what's best for her."
"I agreed at first because I thought it was the right thing to do. I realized that it doesn't matter what you think. I love Lacey, and I want to spend the rest of my life with her."
"That's not going to happen."
"Why not? You're not her boss. She's 21 years old. She can do whatever the hell she pleases."
"She most certainly cannot. I promised her parents that she'd marry someone who had a stable job. Not someone who works part time and plays in a damn band!"
"I'll have you know that I quit the band. I'm working full time at the label company now. I'll be able to provide for both her and Kaylie."
"I won't allow it. I will not have my granddaughter being raised by someone like you."
"What are you gonna do? You wouldn't seriously take Lacey to court over Kaylie, would you?"
"If I have to, then yes. I'll do anything it takes to keep you away from either of them."
"Why are-"
"You wouldn't dare take Kaylie away from me!"
We both turn to see Lacey standing in the doorway of the kitchen. She's furious.
"And what's this about keeping Grayson away from me? You knew how upset I was when he broke it off with me. You only pretended to care. You don't give a damn how I feel. You only want what's best for you. Well, you know what? I'm done with you. Don't talk to me!"
In the middle of her rant, Janie, Cynthia, and Kaylie came into the kitchen. Lacey takes off running towards the living room while Jeremy is calling out to her. He tries to go after her, but Cynthia stops him.
"Don't you think you've done enough? Not only are you the reason Grayson broke her heart. You threatened to take Kaylie away from her." She turns to me. "Grayson, oh need to be the one to go after her. You're the only one who knows where she goes when she's upset."
I know exactly where she's going. "Okay." I turn to Janie. "I need that ring. I had Daniel give it back to her. I thought she should have it. Do you know where she put it?"
"I'll be right back. I'm the only other person who knows where it is. Give me just a minute."
"Okay."
I turn to Kaylie. "Hey, sweetie."
"Hi."
"I'm sorry I hurt Lacey. I wasn't trying to."
"It's okay. Just hurry up and fix things with my mommy so you can be my daddy."
"I'll try my best."
Janie comes back and hands me the ring. "Hurry up and go get her. She needs you now more than ever."
I hurry out to my car. I start it and pull out the drive.
I begin the long drive to our spot. Hopefully I don't get pulled over for speeding. I don't care if I do, though. It'll be worth it."
