Brooke just stood there, not saying a word. She looked from Jesse to Kaycee. Her lips trembled, and tears started falling from her eyes. She gave Kaycee a watery smile.
"I should be mad, but I'm not. Because I always knew. Even when he tried to deny it. You know, I used to ask him what he missed most about North Carolina, and his answer was always you."
Jesse looked at her. "I'm sorry Brooke. I really did like you, but I've always loved Kaycee."
Brooke shook her head. "Don't be sorry. You can't control who you fall in love with."
She opened the front door and started to walk out. "Hey Kaycee?"
Kaycee looked surprised. "Yes Brooke?"
"You're one lucky girl." With one last glance over her shoulder, Brooke closed the door, and walked out of Jesse's life.... for the time being that is.
