❝Why?❞
❝Because you were always there for him❞

He didn't know what to think. He was hoping Kaycee didn't figure out the tweet was about her, but that didn't happen. And the only person he could talk to about this was his mom. Ordinarily he would talk to Kaycee, but he couldn't because it was about her. And if he tried, he knew it would be extremely awkward. So he made his way downstairs, where he knew his mom would be. She was surrounded by papers, her hair was piled atop her head in a messy bun, and she was seated at her computer typing furiously. He figured she must have a deadline for her next chapter, so he was going to turn around and head back upstairs. Her mother senses must have kicked in though, because she swiveled in her chair and saw him before he was able to creep back upstairs. "Jesse, is everything okay?" Jesse made his way into the living room, and sat on the corner of the chair that wasn't covered by pages from his mom's new book. "Are you sure you have time to talk? I know you have deadlines, and I don't want you to miss them because of me." His mom smiled. "You're more important. And I just ended the last chapter of Forever Yours. So you don't need to be worried about me missing deadlines. Now what's up kiddo?" Jesse took a deep breath. "I feel like I have feelings for Kaycee. I think I might like her. But I don't know. And if I did, it wouldn't matter because I doubt she has feelings for me." Jesse's mom's blue green eyes sparkled. "I knew you liked her Jesse. I've known that since you were 10. Even when you brought Brooke down here for Christmas, I could tell you liked Kaycee more. And Brooke knew it too. Which is why she was latched onto you like a koala hugging a tree the entire week. She felt threatened by her." "Okay, so what do I do?" "Tell Kaycee how you feel. And soon." "Thanks mom. You're the best." Jesse rose from the couch and made his way over to the staircase, but paused on the bottom step. "Hey mom... The characters Andrew, Jade, and Faiyth weren't based off of me, Kaycee, and Brooke, were they?" Jesse's mom smiled. "What do you think?" Jesse grinned. "Okay, so tell me this- do we get a happy ending?" His mom looked thoughtful. "That's entirely up to you. This is your life, it's your story. The pen is in your hands. The only one who can control what happens is you. No one else." With that being said, she made her way past Jesse and headed up the stairs to her room. Jesse stood there for a moment, pondering what his mom had said. He knew she was right, now he just needed to figure out how to fix this situation with Kaycee. And soon.
