I froze in place as Sylvie's grin spread further across her face, Xavier was staring at me in horror as my eyes darted back and forth between the two of them. I gulped and opened my mouth slowly but Sylvie held her finger to her lips and then spun it in the room, "In my room, now."
I backed up slowly as Sylvie strode in, her eyes flickered menacingly but she had a sense of glamour to her. Xavier followed in, shutting the door behind him. His eyes never moved from me, he had both hands in his pocket, but he was gripping something firmly.
Sylvie pulled out a chair from the desk beside her and sat down, spinning around in it a few times before crossing her legs. She leaned over, placing her hand on her chin and tapping her fingers against her cheek slightly, "So, you came back after all."
I nodded, sitting down on the bed. Xavier sat down beside me, he placed one hand behind my back, holding the bottom of it gently. His thumb stroking it gently. He glanced at me and nodded slowly.
"Yeah, I got a call from Elisa. She was in trouble."
Sylvie laughed, shaking her head, "Only because of Xavier. Helen wouldn't have been out for blood if it wasn't for him hitting her the way he did. He got violent first."
Xavier glared, "Maybe if she wasn't bitching about Alannah I wouldn't have had to."
Sylvie giggled and glanced at her watch, "I'm going to make this quick since I don't have much time. I know you went downstairs, and frankly, I don't really care. I didn't want you back here but that's not my decision in the end. I see the ring on your finger, so clearly you already got to Oliver. But, you still need to get to the attic, and it won't be easy, or easy on the eyes. I'm not going to help you, because I don't like you. But I won't go blaring my mouth that you're back. Watch yourself, if Helen finds out you're here that'll be the end for you. "
I let out a long breath, I was sure Sylvie was going to start screaming that I was back.
She kept her eyes on me for a moment before standing, her long white dress flowing the floor, "Watch yourself Alannah, I'm not in the mood to be scraping dried blood off the floor again."
With that, she strode out of the room and shut the door behind her.
I looked at Xavier, who had his hand planted firmly on my back, his eyes on the floor. For once, he didn't look like he was high at all.
I watched him as he lifted his head, "So Oliver proposed."
"Yes."
Xavier looked at me, his eyes stern, "Alannah, can't you see right through him?"
My eyes widened slightly as Xavier rolled over me, taking my arms and raising them gently above my head as his eyes met mine. We were nose to nose, I could feel his slow breathing on my lips. He kept eye contact with me the entire time, "He's only doing this to make Helen jealous. He doesn't care, he just wants someone to mess around with. You leave soon, when you're gone he won't care."
I stared back into his eyes, holding my breath, "He told me he would move home with me and sign over the hotel."
He shook his head, "No. He won't. I've seen many young women come in here, almost every one he got down on one knee to. I can't have you falling for his regular tricks. I should've said something sooner but the one time I got a hold of you, I got you too fucked up."
I gulped, "Xavier what are you trying to say?"
"I'm saying exactly what you're hearing. Don't trust him. He's like the king of hearts, he's the strongest card in the pack, but he'll always run back to the queen, and you'll just be left as the joker."
