It’s the first track meet of the year, and like the principal said I am forced to sit out. I watch as the other schools arrive  and take their positions on the starting line. Harry is the starter for the school. He takes his spot and stretches up before the match actually starts. I’m sitting on the bench watching him from afar. He looks damn good. His long arms almost reaching the length of his long legs while he stretches. It takes almost all of me to keep myself glued to the bench.

The coach walks over to him, giving Harry a few encouraging words before the match. Harry smiles at him and finally stands. Doing a final stretch before the race starts. He ruffles his curls and takes his final position. The other two racers look like they are fast. I mean I can outrun them, but for human speed they look like they are pushing the boundaries. But Harry doesn’t look intimidated. He smiles at his opponents and gives a quick wave to the crowd before the gun goes off signaling the beginning of the race.

Harry breaks into a sprint and at that moment I tune everything else out. My eyes are only focused on the curly haired boy and how his body is working. How his arms flex every time his feet touch the ground. How hard his legs are pumping to force the speed he is going. How serious his face is and yet his eyes still have the calming light in them. And his heart. God that heart that I want to keep beating but also drain of all it’s blood. I can hear it beating in overtime due to his running. He is trying his hardest to keep the other runners behind him.

The first lap finishes and Harry is still in the lead. Just barely but he still is. The second lap begins and I can tell he is getting tired, but if he loses pace now then he will trail behind the other racers. Harry breathes in heavily through his perfect pink lips, that I would die a thousands times for just to feel back on mine. Alright, that might be a bit drastic but my god his lips are soft and perfect and... alright Liam, let’s pull ourselves together. I shake my head and continue to watch Harry.

I try to keep my eyes on Harry, but my focus is drawn somewhere else. I can sense something or someone. I’ve felt this feeling before. In my dreams. It’s that same feeling I get everytime I have that dream where I’m running with someone. This strained and eerie feeling that makes me feel uncomfortable. I look around the crowd trying to find someone that doesn’t fit. But I can’t. I even try to put my senses into overload, but still get nothing. And then I see something that doesn’t fit. I know it’s a person, but there’s something off about them. I can’t see their face but I can see a sly grin creep onto his face.

I look back on the track and notice Harry has slowed down. Actually he’s stopped completely. The coach is yelling at him to continue, but Harry looks out of it. Almost as if he’s in a trance. He looks at me before collapsing on the track. The race stops and everyone instantly runs over to Harry. I beat most the people there and shove my way through trying to get a good look at him. His skin is pale and almost clammy looking. I can hear that his heartbeat is way too slow for a normal person’s. I crouch down next to the trainer as she takes his pulse.

“We need to get him out of the sun. I think he’s dehydrated.” She speaks and I nod, even though she wasn’t talking to me.

“I can take him to the nurses office.” I volunteer and the trainer gives me a smile.

“Way to be a team player.”

I nod and take Harry’s lithe body into my arms. I have to force myself to make it look like his strength is unbearable, but it’s not. Everyone begins clapping and I hear the coaches talking to the referee about continuing the race. I keep walking with Harry and I notice that the farther away we get from the track the more steady his heartbeat becomes.

We enter the building and the air conditioning feels good, compared to the fall heat that is outside. I walk Harry to the nurse and when she sees his state she immediately calls the hospital. Something about needing to get fluids in his system and fast. The ambulance arrives and I ride with the paramedics to the hospital. All the while ignoring the glances I’m gaining from holding Harry’s hand on the ride there.  Once at the hospital the doctors take Harry up to a room and hook him up to a whole bunch of cords.
