Let other people lead the story for a little or have the spotlight. If everything is about you, the other person will likely get bored and stop replying. Share the spotlight so that you both can have fun.
If you've just had an entire plot line about finding your long lost brother, filled with emotions and heart break, while your partner looked on, unable to really participate, now is not the time to start a plot about you needing a dress for prom. Let them have an emotional storyline, let them choose what you do next.
