Tip 2 - Check

Check with the other person from time to time. Make sure you're not overriding a plot they had in mind. Most of the time, a role player will leave something open ended because they don't know what to do, but other times they have a plan. Always better to check than to take over their idea. (Note: This can become irritating if you ask about overly simple things and are afraid to move the plot along yourself. I am guilty of over clarifying things, but I have had too many people override my plans with their own plot lines. I'd say, over clarify rather than stealing the plot, but use common sense. If they just said they got shot or stabbed, you don't have to ask of you can say they were bleeding.)

Check to make sure if your role play partner is okay with what you're about to do. If things are getting romantic or violent or you're about to alter the plot in an irreversible way, make sure the other person is okay with that.
