Prologue

Audrey shuffled through the stack of mail roughly, throwing every envelope that was titled advertisements or billing. Chucking the fluorescent red flyer of a popular pizza-chain, her breath suddenly hitched as she came across a beautifully photograph postcard. The photograph was taken at the night as the dark background shadowed the brightly lit city. In the foreground, a stream of lights were structured around a large frame- easily recognized as the Eiffel Tower. In the bottom left-hand corner of the postcard, cursive typing read a simple "Wish you were here..." with a solid black heart ending the meaningful message. Audrey ran her finger slowly along the bottom of the postcard. Then with her fingers, she flipped the postcard over and silently read the message. She felt a rush of blood travelling straight to her head. Placing the card on the glass table slowly, she shook her head as her long hair calmly swayed around her stomach. A small tear seemed to escape her eyes; slowly rolling down her flushed cheeks.

A muffled knock was suddenly heard at the door, echoing the room where she stood. She glanced at the door as her eyebrows furrowed together in thought. Audrey stood on her toes to look through the peep hole of the door. A tall and muscular frame came in view. His naturally sculpted face was facing the ground, his thumbs twiddling nervously. Audrey could feel her heart pace quicken at an abnormal rate. Her breath was rigid and uneven. She wrapped a frail hand around the cold brass knob, slowly turning it counter-clockwise. As he stood in front of her, her knees began to buckle.

"Audrey," he said.
