Chapter Six- The Status Code- The L.A.R.P.S

Okay Piper. First step to finding your way around the campus is to find your way around your dorm building.

I tried desperately to remember where the stupid elevator was. Damn my bad sense of direction.

I turned right, and left, and right again, and then left and somehow ended up right back where I started- my dorm.

Luckily, Landon hadn’t gotten over my slamming the door in his face, and hadn’t come looking for me.

Full of optimism and a new found desire to do something for myself, I tried again.

I circled around the dorm once and just my luck- the elevator was just down the hall from my room. I just hadn’t noticed it.

Apparently the sign ‘Elevator’ wasn’t clear enough for my mind to process. Sighing and rolling my eyes at my idiocy, I got into the elevator and was surprised that there was no one around.

I guess everyone must be in class already. Well, everyone except Landon and I.

On my way out, I decided to drop in on Maybel. She hadn’t checked in on me like she promised. I knocked on her door and she opened it a second later.

“Hi! May I help you?” She asked.

“Hi, we met yesterday…I’m Piper.”

“We met yesterday? No, I don’t think so…I’m Maybel, your dorm supervisor. It’s really nice to meet you! You know we only get new students here on occasion and I get very excited when they come. You should know ahead of time that I’m a very joyous person. I like your name, by the way! Piper…hmmm…maybe I should change my name to that. Ooooh I like it! There was a girl here yesterday who went by Brittany. That’s a nice name too!”

“Uh…I’m sure we’ve met.”

“We have?”

“Yes.” I replied obediently.

“Well then it’s nice to meet you again.” Maybel piped, shrugging to herself.  “Is there anything I can help you with? You know, I’m good at helping! Just don’t ask me to cook. I’m not very good at that. Of course, I can help you with school work or assignments. Of course, I’m not very good at those either.”

“Do you have a map of the school or something?”

“Yes. Yes I do. You know, I kind of like the map. It’s very private school-ish. Of course, this is a private school. Of course, maps usually look like that.” Maybe said. I noticed how she said ‘of course’ at the start of her sentences a lot.

Maybel handed me a map and I took off.

I walked left, towards the courtyard, which I knew was the local hang out place in the school. I had done my research before coming here. I wanted to be prepared.

Not to mention Landon had told me about it the night earlier.

Ugh...Landon.

I didn’t even know how I felt about him yet. At times, I honestly hated the ground he walked on. And other times? Well I didn’t hate the ground he walked on.

It was complicated.

In the middle of the courtyard was a big fountain that you immediately saw when you entered the school. Towards the right of the paved way, was a garden, a place full of trees and flower beds that were evenly spaced out. In the corner of the garden was a big willow tree that immediately caught my eye. There wasn’t a lot of greenery in New York, especially in the side of New York I lived. I liked seeing green everywhere.
