Chapter 14- Ghettos

“So you’re just going to stay quiet?”

I tapped my leg against the door impatiently.

Silence.

“Really Brennan? I can’t even believe you right now! When you’re girlfriend cheats on you, you don’t stay quiet! and stare at her.”

...

“Was it his hair? Cause you know, I think he dyes it.”

I  stared at Brennan with infinite amount of unbelieving. “W-what?”

“I said, was it his hair?” Bren’s face was completely un-bothered, and in fact, a little amused.

“I know what you said...I just can’t believe it.”

“Why sweetheart?” He got up from where his favorite brown upholstered chair, his hands in his back jean pockets, a goofy grin covering his face.

“Because I did something wrong.” I undertoned.

“You’re so cute when you’re clueless.”

My blank face remained the same. He chuckled to himself and then reached for both my hands to place them in his. “I had a feeling you had.”

This confused me further, “What do you mean you had a feeling?”

“Come on Pipes, you never call anymore, I get one text a week, and whenever we do talk, it’s usually about what you and Landon did that day, or some other funny story.”

“So you’re not mad?”

“I was. Really really mad. I nearly broke a chair- actually it’s basically broken now. Mom has to replace it after work.”

“You broke a chair?”

“And punched a wall...hence the blood knuckles” He raised his hand to show me.

“Okay..okay.” I was attempting to figure it out. “So you were mad? But you aren’t now?”

“I’m still mad.”

“What?”

“I said I’m still mad. Jeez Pipes, check your ears, will you?”

“You’re not acting mad, Bren.”

“Because I love you more than I hate you.”

“I- I love you too Bren.” A smile broke away.

“I know, you always will. And I will too.”

“Well looks like you know everything, then.” I teased.

“Everything except one.”

“And what’s that? Your science work? Or your algebra?”

“Shut up, you know me and academics don’t work. I meant about you.”

“Huh?”

“Do you like him?”

“Him who?” I asked aloud.

“Landon.” That was the first time I’d heard Brennan say his name out loud.

“I don’t know Bren...this is kinda weird.”

Brenn nodded with understanding. “So you like him.”

“I never said that!” I protested cautiously.

“But I know you.”

"He does his eyebrows as well and I can bet anything that his chest is freshly waxed."
