Proceeding the Quinx gang's leave, Haise stood awkwardly and continued looking at Touka, who was doing the same.
"How can you possibly have regrets after leaving us back at Anteiku?!" Touka shouted angrily at the Ghoul investigator.
He looked shocked, taken aback. "Touka...I really am sorry. I wasn't in my right mind at that time. I never should've left you all, I was being stupid and thought I could protect you by leaving you." Glancing downward, he remembered his thoughts while leaving, "it's for her own good" and "she won't get hurt now," but it was really his absence that hurt her the most.
"Hah, wow for a bookworm you were pretty dense. Did you ever think about how I felt?" She was becoming just a bit enraged, moving slightly closer with each word.
"At that time I was different, and I'm different now. I won't ever hurt you again. Is there any way I can make it up to you?" She could see the regret in his eyes and her anger melted away.
She flustered for a second, quite uncharacteristically at that, and pulled his tie towards her. "Well..."
Before she knew it, she was pulling him into her arms and crying into his chest. "I've missed you...so much."
Noticing her body tense in his, Haise wrapped his arms around her and comfortingly hugged her, reveling in the warmth of her hug. "I've missed you too, Touka."
"How much longer are you going to be staying in this ward?" Touka asked, expecting the response she was to receive.
"Well, I think my squad and I are going to stay one more day in order for the funeral but then we have to head back to HQ, I wish we could stay longer."
He lifted her chin, "I may be able to request a break though," planting his lips onto hers, he could feel her tears as she was so happy this had finally happened.
He held her in his arms, knowing she didn't want him to ever leave, he gently kissed her forehead and said,"I'm sorry, but I have to leave. I'll be back tomorrow for sure."
She smiled and waved goodbye as he left with the rest of his subordinates and once they got back to their hotel they started preparing for Saiko's funeral. They wanted it to be simple and short, just like her, but couldn't decide whether to have it here or back at HQ. they decided to go back to HQ, since the event would be filled with familiar faces.
Haise planned to return to :RE regularly in between missions, Which caught the suspicion of many of his colleagues later on, but of course he didn't care. All he cared about now was Touka.
Aaaand that's the final chapter guys! Honestly it's amazing to me that this story got so popular, I still can't believe it. This was so fun and sometimes difficult to write but I'm glad I kept going and I'm sorry I took so many long breaks from writing. For any Mystic Messenger fans reading this, I may start writing x readers in the future, but probably once I finish all the routes. I've only done Zen so far and I'm going for Jaehee next. Anyway, I'm gonna start getting off topic soon so thank you all for reading my story and who knows? Maybe I'll catch you reading more of my works(hopefully not haha I don't think anything else I've written is very good).
