"Aren't you a bit too old?"

Yes, I am. The girl looked up at the tattered flaps of the talking hat. It smelled of moth and age and will probably make her hair smell like it later. I'm almost seventeen.

"Already of age. I wish we could have met sooner. A Nevernix, huh? The first of your name in Hogwarts. Not a muggleborn, not a pureblood... A half blood, I see... Half wizard and half-"

Just get on with it. I'm getting hungry. The girl was getting impatient and started chewing on the inside of her mouth, she tasted the metallic and salty taste of her own blood on her tongue- just the taste made the whole ordeal bearable. But she'll have to do with just her own for now. The older woman with the pointy hat watched her with hawk like eyes from across the table.

The girl is their prisoner now.

"Let's see. Oh, brave! Definitely brave! But hates the glory and the prestige..."

I don't want to be in the Prophet if that's what you're asking, those are for good for nothing politicians.

"Sharp of tongue, sharp of mind but loathes books..." The hat made a tutting sound.

Paper makes me want to grab a torch.

"But kind, definitely kind. A big heart. Fiercely loyal yet untrusting and what is this I see? A recent heartbreak?"

Just put me in Slytherin. I heard that's where my people are.

"Oh, the house of the Serpent? Are you sure? Ah, yes. All their traits, you certainly are cunning, clever and you will do anything to get what you want- but what is it that you want?"

The girl looked down on her tattered shoes, the soles have holes in them by now from all the running. Friction never did anyone any good. Too close. Too often. Too hot.

"To be accepted. To have some place to call your own. To simply be--"

No, you're wrong. Who would want that? What corny, pathetic- that's a bunch of cock and bull right there!

"I got it!" The corner's of the hat's floppy mouth turned down for a moment before shouting, "HUFFLEPUFF!"

The girl nearly stood up and screamed but she didn't. She merely tugged on her skirt, she had it on for weeks now. Never had a change of clothes while on the run, thank Merlin for Scourgify. But said skirt has started to become thinner, not too good on combating the cold anymore. She felt goosebumps on her thighs and reached down to pull up her socks, they kept pooling at her feet.

"Hufflepuff then, Miss Nevernix," the woman said to the girl as she removed the Sorting Hat. "Welcome to Hogwarts."

The girl opened her mouth to speak but at that exact moment the door to the woman's office burst open and there was a flash of bright light.

"Headmistress! What are your thoughts about Hogwarts opening despite of last years events? Do you have any comment about the returning seventh years? Because personally I am rather looking forward to classes with Harry Potter himself!"

There were more flashes of light. The girl was not bothered to look for the cause, she's not curious but she liked watching the older woman shield her eyes from the light. It was funny.

"Colin! Stop it! Ten points from Gryffindor!"

The clicking noises and the bright lights stopped. "Apologies, Headmistress. I was just a bit too excited."

The girl was unsure how to call the woman. The letter was addressed to a Professor McGonagall but it seems Headmistress is what it is now. The war brought on a lot of change. The addition of the man she knows as Dumbledore on the portrait around the room was more than proof.

Her situation is more than proof.

"Wow, she has really stunning eyes," someone said from beside her. "Headmistress, can I take a picture of her?"

Rude. I am not a display. I'll decapitate you and push you down a cliff.

"Colin, will you calm down for a moment and explain why you are here and how you even know the password to my office," Headmistress McGonagall fumed. The girl wished she would take more points from Gryffindor for his behavior though the pointing system is yet to be explained to her. It's enough to know that there are points and there are different houses for her to get the idea of it.

"I learned your password while I was following Harry Potter around, I usually-- well, sometimes follow him around," Colin smiled. He has light brown eyes and straight teeth, the girl observed- the teeth and the eyes are the first things she looks at for any signs that someone might be the same as her. "I just came to talk to you, Headmistress. Just making sure you're alright. Maybe take a few photos, I'm putting together an album, you see." He grinned at the girl and the headmistress but none grinned back. He didn't look too defeated though, he just pursed his lips and hummed while wiping the lens of his camera. His camera looked strange, the girl observed again. Probably one of those muggle ones.

Finally, McGonagall sighed, "Thank you for your concern. You can visit me some other time. I ought to have called for a Hufflepuff prefect but since you are already here- maybe you can show her around. This is Violetta Nevernix, she just transferred from Durmstrang. Miss Nevernix, this is Colin Creevey. He'll walk you to your dormitory."

Colin stared at the girl's face like he was memorizing every detail. In return the girl stared back, she doesn't like losing. To her surprise, he chuckled as he took her papery hand against his strong one and shook it. "I just can't get over your eyes."

She let go of his hand and walked to the door without comment. He ran after her and opened the door. She walked out and the moment Colin closed the door to McGonagall's office, she pulled on his scarlet necktie so their faces were just inches apart. Colin had to stoop down for he was much taller than the girl.

"You will not talk to me, you will not look at me and you will certainly not take a picture of me cause the moment that you do- I am aiming for your heart," she spat at him.

Colin nodded but didn't appear scared if anything, his big brown eyes glinted at the girl mischievously. "I don't mean to offend you but you're really pretty and someone has to say so and therefore... We have to get you to your dormitory."

He walked ahead of her and maintained his distance until they arrived at Hufflepuff's dormitory.

And Colin Creevey said good night.

The girl didn't say it back.

But both knew they were going to see each other again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Why did JK Rowling had to kill an innocent fanboy who loves taking pictures? I love Colin and there are literally no updated fanfics with him in it so here we go. Haha.

Song up top is 'When We First Met' by hellogoodbye and please check out the absolutely adorable video that Tessa Violet made for it. I've decided that this fic will have more fluff and touching (and dark stuff too) hahaha so if anyone's up for that please do stay on board. :)

Dedicated to venustate_ cause she made my ad and it's the literal cutest. <3
