The LEI is that year was a race from Dunkirk NY to Port Colbourne Ca. We were racing my dad's C and C 34. The race started off with a very light breeze barely enough to start and then the wind picked up to six knots throughout the day. Very shortly after the start we turned the auto helm on with the spinnaker up and would actually trim the chute one degree at a time with the auto helm. We spent the entire day going down the lake that way with the other boats getting further and further behind us. We ended up horizoning the fleet. We did so well but when we were just about finishing it turns out the race sunset was four o'clock instead of what we thought previously was six o'clock. We missed the race sun set by about only thirty minutes, only thirty minutes really. We would have had the boat name on a hundred year old trophy if not for the race sunset. It was still a great day even with the disappointment of not getting anything and being so close.
