Chapter 1

Marcel's POV

I park my car in its usual parking spot, just outside the office. I look around the parking lot to notice that I'm the first one here, again. My bosses are too lazy to even wake up in the morning, no, for them work starts at noon. I shake my head and take the keys out of the ignition. I bend out of the car and walk around to the right side of the back seat, leaning in to grab my multiple poster boards, which are filled with charts and pictures. I struggle to carry the posters in my arms. When I reach the door, I practically face palm myself for not realizing how difficult it will be to take the keys out of my pocket and unlock the office doors.

"Alrighty, let's see." I mutter as I try to juggle all the posters in my left hand, while my right searches for the keys in my front pocket.

"Damn it. Where did I put them?" I hiss as I search all my pockets, including my sweater vest's, only to turn up short.

I huff in annoyance, what do I do now? I'm locked ou- I'm then interrupted by the sound of somebody clearing their throat. I instantly go rigid and stand still.

"Looking for these?" A smooth, melodic voice asks.

My body practically melts with her voice. I swiftly turn around and shyly look down to an angelic face smirking up at me, she jingles the keys in her left hand with her right on her hip.

"H-hey, Veronica.." I stand there awkwardly, still struggling with all the poster boards.

"You look like you could use some help." Veronica points out.

"No, I'm fine. If you could just pass me the keys, I'll unlock the door." I suggest as I stretch out my right hand to her.

"Oh don't be silly, Marcel. Your name is Marcel, isn't?" I give her a quick nod. She smiles and continues, "I can unlock the door and hold it open for you."

Veronica walks up to the door and unlocks it, she holds the door open for me as I make my way inside. I head straight for my desk to settle the poster boards down and relieve the dull aching in my arms. Maybe I should work out. When I finish organizing the poster boards in alphabetical order, according to title names, I figure I should try to find Veronica and thank her for helping me out. I walk around the office until I pass the employee lounge and see the lights are turned on. I walk in to find Veronica's back is towards me, the smell of fresh brewed coffee lingers in the air.

"Hey, Marcel." Veronica greets, she turns around with a mug of coffee in her hands.

"Hi, uh, I just, uh, wanted to say thank you." I rush out.

She smiles, "No problem. Want some?" She asks as she holds up her mug a little higher.

"Um, sure." I smile shyly.

She makes me a cup of coffee, hands me the mug, and sits down at the white round table in the center of the employee lounge. I mutter a quite 'thank you' and stand there awkwardly.

"Well don't just stand there, sit down." Veronica demands. "I'm not going to bite...well, not yet anyways." She jokes with a wink.

I take a seat across from her and look around the employee lounge, the walls are light blue with white counters. Two black microwaves sit on the counter next to an old white coffee maker, a white fridge stands snugly in the corner between the end of the counter and the wall.

"So..."

I snap my head back to Veronica, "Uh, yeah."

Why am I so awkward?

I cough and barely make eye contact with her, "Uh, well, I should start working, I have lots to do." And with that, I scurry out of the employee lounge without uttering another word.
