Chapter 22

Marcel's POV

"Hey, Veronica, it's me, Marcel, which I'm assuming you already know considering the fact that you have an iPhone that does have caller ID, as do most cell phones an- God, Veronica just tell me where you are! Please just call me back, or text me, or you know, you don't have to even tell me where you are, just tell me that you're fi-"

The voicemail beeps in my ear, notifying me that I have run out of time for my message and ends the call. I sigh out in frustration and throw my phone onto the couch, that was about the twentieth time I called her. I had no idea where she went after our little argument, it's been about eight hours and no sign of her. I was going insane. If something happens to Veronica it would be my fault. I just couldn't bare the thought of her walking around the streets of New York, she didn't even have her car for God's sake! Just then my phone begins to ring and I practically throw myself onto the couch to get it when I notice that it's only Mel and I let out a sigh.

"Hello?" I answer with my best cheery tone.

"Hey, we are still on for tonight, right?" She asks.

I roll my eyes and slouch against the couch. "Yeah, we're still on for tonight." I mutter.

"Great, okay! I was hoping that nothing from today really changed anything between us." She slowly says with uncertainty.

"Well there isn't much between us to begin with." I snap in irritation. I was already pissed off with Veronica, going on a date with Melanie was the last I wanted to do.

"Er, right." She quietly trails off and I immediately feel terrible, but she had as much to do with Veronica's outburst as I did so she wasn't completely innocent.

"Um, yeah, so did you pick a place to go?" I awkwardly murmur.

"Oh yeah! I was thinking that we could go to the movies, I can text you the time later, alright?" She responds excitedly, making me roll my eyes for about the hundredth time since talking to her.

"Yeah, that's fine." I grumble before saying "good bye" and ending the call.

I stare up at the ceiling for about ten minutes before deciding that I should probably get a move on and get ready. If Veronica wanted to run off, to God knows where, then let her. I was tired of having to run after her, she's a grown woman, she'll make it back eventually.

Veronica's POV

"Bartender! Toss me another!" I shout over the chatter. Even though it was around five o'clock, the bar was surprisingly crowded. The same Irish guy, I forgot his name, from before came to my aid and falsely smiled.

"That's your fourth one today, you sure a little thing like yourself should be drinking this much?"

I push myself up and lean over the counter to bring my lips close to his ear. "Don't you worry about me, babe, I can handle a lot of things. How about another beer, sweet cheeks?" I lick my lips in seduction and place a $20 bill in his hand to cover my future purchases.

He bites his lip a bit and smirks at me before turning around to fetch me another shot. I smile to myself and play with the lime at the bottom of my glass. My phone vibrates on the bar top and I curiously look down, even though I already knew who it was. I saw I had one voicemail and yet another text. I roll my eyes and unlock my phone, scanning the text.

From: Marcel

Look I get that you're upset, but I'm not just going to wait around for you to show up. I'm not going to be at my apartment until late, hopefully you got a key.
