Chapter 6
Marcel's POV
"Hey, are you ready?"
I had been finishing cleaning up my desk before heading home for the night, when Veronica had come bounding up to my desk. I gave her a confused look, but I decided to answer anyways, "Uh, yeah, I just need to put new staples in my stapler and I'll be all set to go."
Veronica nods her head and leans against my desk, "Ok, cool. So you can just follow me there."
I turn my head towards her and a perplexed expression crosses my face, "Um, what exactly are we, uh, conversing about here?"
Veronica cocks her head to the right and smiles, "You already forgot?" I just blankly stare at her, waiting for her to continue. "You said that you would go out with me tonight to celebrate." She sighs.
I feel the nerves take over and all I want to do is go home. I can't do this! She barely knows me now, what if she decides that I'm really weird and hates me. Where does she even want to go. I awkwardly clear my throat and ask, "Um, where exactly are we, uh, going, Veronica?"
"You'll see." She smirks and stands up straight.
The way she smirks at me makes the butterflies erupt in my stomach. What if she realizes just how much of a dork I am, and decides to never talk to me again? "Um, you know it's not that big of a deal. We don't have to celebrate me landing Brody's Surf Shop for the company. Really, it's alright." I pop in a new row of staples into my stapler as I wait for her response.
Veronica crosses her arms over her chest and narrows her eyes, "You are not backing out now. You agreed earlier."
"I know I did bu-"
Veronica holds up her hand and interrupts me, "No, you have to go. Oh come on, it'll be so much fun, I promise." She then follows her statement with a pout.
She gives me this sort of puppy dog eyes and a pout, the combination throwing me completely off. I can't help but say 'yes'. Oh come on, there is no way you could say 'no' to a face like that. I nod my head and before I can stop myself, I'm agreeing, "Yeah, yeah, alright."
Veronica's eyes light up and she claps her hands together, "Yay! Alright let's go!" She lurches forward and grabs my hand, pulling me to the office exit.

"Seriously, Veronica? An Irish pub? That's where you want to celebrate?" We both stand outside of an Irish pub called The Lucky Leprechaun. Of course, it's an Irish pub, what else would it be called?
Veronica places her hands on her hips and turns to face me, "Why not an Irish pub? Promise you, we'll have a great time! I love this place."
I turn to look at the pub wearily. So, I've never actually been in a pub, I'm more of a homebody. I prefer to just stay home in a nice quite environment where I don't have to confront so many people at once. Yeah, I may or may not have social anxiety. I think my lack of friends can answer that question for you.
"Marcel? Are you alright? You look sort of...stunned? What's wrong?" Veronica asks, her face expressing a mix of confusion and worry.
"I-I, I, uh, just don't really like pubs, I haven't had the best experience with them."
"What do you mean?" Veronica asks.
"Last time I went to a pub, I got into a fight with a pretty large guy." I lie. I have no idea why I lied, to tell you the truth, I think I was just nervous about seeing so many people in a small pub. Or maybe you just wanted to seem all tough and cool in front of Veronica. Yeah that's probably why.
