"...And that's it, friendo. I win." The smug cowboy shined a smile as he took your last pile of chips from you. "Game over."
You were stunned. How could you lose? You and Jesse were engaged in a game of poker. 'Were' being the key word here. He gave you hell.
"Wha... but... I..." You could not utter a single word. Jesse laughed. You gave him a look of defeat.
"Come on, partner," he said, putting his arm around your shoulder, "drinks are on me." Your cheeks flushed.
You and Jesse connected in a lot of ways. Ever since you had been accepted into Overwatch, the two of you were never really seen in the same place without each other, whether it was on the battlefield or off-duty. You two were like peas in a pod, so it's only natural that you started to develop feelings towards him.
Soon, the two of you had arrived at the nearest tavern, a mile or so from the base. This tavern was a bit louder than the others, but it sufficed.
"Double scotch, on the rocks." Jesse spoke to the waitress. She turned to you.
"Just some water for me, please." The waitress nodded and wandered off. As you scanned the tavern, you noticed a group of shady-looking guys grouped in the corner. Six people altogether. A couple of them had their eyes on you, but the others had their backs turned. You gulped, feeling out of place.
"Something wrong, partner?" Jesse's voice startled you out of your thoughts. He had an inquisitive look on his face.
"Nah, just can't stop thinking about how you wrecked me in that game earlier." You lied.
He raised an eyebrow, studying you. After a second, he chuckled.
"Still on about that, huh?" He gave a smile. Gosh, that smile. You leaned back.
"Yeah, I mean, there's gotta be some secret technique to beating you," you continued, "or else you're cheating."
"Heh," he shrugged. "Well, if you're that sore about it, I can teach you a few tricks." He leaned in a bit, the candlelight illuminating his face. "One on one, maybe?" Your cheeks flushed once again.
"Are you hitting on me?" You asked, a hint of flirtatiousness in your tone.
Before he could answer, something else caught his attention. The strange group from the other table started advancing towards you.
"Mccree!" A surly voice, emanating from the biggest guy in the group, spoke. The cowboy didn't even look at him.
"What do you fellas want?" Jesse's tone changed to one of disgust.
"You didn't think we'd recognize you, huh?" The big guy glared at Jesse. "You got a bounty on yah, cowboy. $10,000,000. Dead or alive. And we're here to collect."
"Figures." You shrugged, and Jesse chuckled.
"Fellas," Jesse began, standing up. "Nothing good can come of this. So I suggest that you part ways, and allow me and my friend here to leave unharmed." He boasted. You stood up beside him.
"Hah! Fat chance, cowboy. Now you're gonna regret saying that."
The group of bounty hunters surrounded the two of you. Everyone who wasn't involved in the brewing conflict had already left. Even the bartender was nowhere to be found. It was just the eight of you.
"Draw!" Jesse grabbed his revolver and shot one of the goons in the chest. You grabbed an empty beer bottle and smashed it against one guy's head. He went down instantly. Jesse kicked one mook in the face, and knocked him out. The big guy grabbed a table and threw it in your direction, but you ducked at the last second, and it hit the man sneaking up on you. Gunfire rang out from all around you.
"You hold up surprisingly well in a fight!" Jesse yelled, as he punched the big guy right across the face.
"Yeah," you called, grabbing a chair. "I'm just full of surprises!" You smashed the chair against the fifth guy on "full". The big guy pushed Jesse out of his path, and whistled to his teammates. Only three of them got back up.
"You know, this isn't very romantic!" You shouted, and grabbed one guy, putting him in a chokehold.
"Sure is excitin', though, ain't it?" Jesse rushed over to you and fired his revolver at one guy.
"Damn straight!" You smashed your guy into a nearby table.
Jesse yelled for you to duck, and you did, his bullet soaring above you and into the mook about to pounce on you. At that moment, however, the big guy grabbed you.
"Hey! GET OFF OF ME!" You roared, but to no avail. You felt the tip of a gun against the side of your head. Jesse turned around and saw you.
"Y/n!" He cried. The big guy laughed. "Put them down!" Jesse demanded.
"Or what, little man?" The big guy gloated. "You gonna kill me?"
"That's just about the size of it." Jesse aimed his revolver right at the big guy. At that moment, you bit down on his arm. He yelled, and let you go. You rolled away as a gunshot sounded. The big guy toppled over.
You breathed a sigh of relief, and accepted Jesse's hand when he offered it. As he pulled you up, you grabbed the scruff of his shirt and pulled him into a long, passionate kiss. He was startled, but soon got into it. It was an impulsive action.
"Thanks for saving my life, cowboy." You said, as you were walking back to base.
"Ain't nothin' to it, Y/n. Though, next time you're being held at gunpoint, don't bite down on the guy's arm. You might accidentally trigger the gun." He gave you a wink.
"I'll keep that in mind," you laughed. The exciting even had left you drained, and you just wanted to relax in the cowboy's arms for the night.
