Amarri
**Two weeks later**
It's Thanksgiving day and I'm torn apart. I've always spent part of the day with Mir and his family and the other part with Sehven and her family since I didn't have any family. This Thanksgiving though Dominique wanted me to spend it with him and his family as well as Bone and Sharon. Supposedly she's really my mom and wants to get clean and start a relationship with me. Bone is even setting up a DNA test for us. I don't know about that though. I would really rather live my life like I have been for so long... without her in it.
"Hello, did you hear a word I just said?" Jim's voice screamed through my ear. He had come over to discuss a few things about my case but I was zoned out thinking about other things. I tried to put this meeting off for one more day since it was Thanksgiving but he wasn't having it.
"You say what now?" I was a bit annoyed at this point.
"Alright look, if you don't care then I don't either." He started gathering his things up.
"Ok wait a minute..sit down."
"As I was saying. Dominique didn't wanna press charges even after the state kept badgering him too but since it happened in a public place the state can and did pick up the charges. And so far they have a key witness. I don't know the name of this person, but he's a worker at the club...a bartender."
"A bartender? I don't know who it could be. But it don't mean shit do it? Without the tape they got nothing right?"
Jim scrunched up his and was in deep thought before he answered me, "you are looking at attempted murder, Amarri, even without the tape."
"Attempted murder! No fucking way!"
"Calm down you-"
"This is not your life on the line so don't tell me to calm down." I interrupted screaming.
"No it's not my life but I take my job very seriously. Now if you would just sit back and let me do my job I can assure you that you will have a lesser charge." I sat back in the chair shaking my head in disbelief as he continued to talk. " You have to be fully cooperative. What's done is done. We can't go backwards only forward. I can't guarantee that you won't do any jail time...let's just be real here, you did attempt to shoot somebody, but I can guarantee that it won't be for long. Right now I'm working on the identity of the witness, if I can get that my job will be smooth sailing."
I didn't say anything back, quite frankly I didn't care either. I had too much on my plate. My plate was full already, now I gotta add this. What happened to the life I had just a month ago? Everything feels so surreal and I don't know how to deal. I watched as Jim packed his papers and headed for the door. He told me he would call me in a week or so. After locking up, I called Amir.
"What's up big head?" He answered on the first ring.
"My life is fucked up Mir." I couldn't hold back the tears. They flowed down my face and dripped onto my chest.
"What happened?"
"What's not happening? Jim just left and I'm facing attempted murder charges." I managed to get out in between sobs.
"You bullshitting? Come on now."
"I wish I was. It's just too much. This, Sharon thinking she my mama, and I gotta worry about Dinko and his crazy ass sidekick trying to kill me? I can't take all of this at once." Mir finally told me that Dinko and some other dude was responsible for running him off the road.
"Mannn...on my life we good. I ain't gon let nothing happen to you aight?"
There was silence on my end.
