Leila's pov
Her eyes went wide after those words had come out of my mouth. Totally forgot I had to sugar coat it.
"W-what?" Tears kept streaming down her face. I was speechless from the words that I had said when I had told myself not to be so stubborn. I didn't want to be the reason if Mrs. Dolan is ashamed of what her sons have been doing.
"Oh, Leila. Always joking around, huh?" The other girl looked at me, and winked.
Bless.
"Uh, yea. You know me." I laughed. Mrs. Dolan sighed in relief, and looked towards me. "Well, where are they?" I didn't know what to say. I knew where I could find Ethan, but I just didn't want to tell her about Grayson. No mother would want to hear this from something they literally just met.
I looked over to the girl for silent advice, but she just shrugged.
Oh yea, thanks for the help.
"Yes." Their faces lit up with excitement. "Where?!" She smiled happily. I wish I could be that happy. With what's going on then and now, I don't know if I ever will.
"I can't tell you." Their smiles went back down. "It's a secret - for, protection purposes. Safety is my middle name." I tried to pull off.
"You guys must be really tired. Why don't you go get a hotel and get some sleep?" The girl suggested them. They looked at each other, and nodded. "Well, we'll see you tomorrow, Leila. Goodnight." I waved goodbye to them, and waited for them to leave. I needed to talk to the girl. Mrs. Dolan went up to the girl, and kissed her cheek along with a hug. "Let me know if you need a hotel room. I'll help you out." What.
"Thanks mom." She smiled. whAT.
"Anything for my daughter." She smiled proudly. WHAT.
When the couple walked out, and smiled at me innocently. "You. Y-you you." I kept pointing from her to the door. Cameron is related to Ethan AND GRAYSON!? How!? "Yea. I know." She looked at the floor. "You have a lot of explaining to do." I folded my arms together. She nodded, and sat down in a chair slightly next to me.
"Yes. Ethan and Grayson are my brothers. And yes, I killed Grayson."
Ethan's pov
My life has been a series of screams and cries. Never happiness. Never love. Never a decent family. Always anger, disrespect, fights. I could never escape it. It was how I lived. It was just like being normal. Having daily routines. I don't remember that much from the past. But in this box, where it's nothing but darkness. It brings back a lot.
I remember when I was 11. Scott had brought two little girls one night.
~cliche flashback~
"Ethan! Grayson!" I ran downstairs at the sound of my name, and found Scott carrying two little girls - about the same age as me, maybe a little older. Grayson stopped next to me, and watched as Scott put one on the floor. "Grab her and take her downstairs." He started walking when I stopped him. "Where are you taking her?" He turned around, and glared at me.
"Did you just question me?" I widened my eyes and shook my head vigorously. "Good." He turned back around and continued to wherever. "Come on." Grayson and I grabbed the girl, and took her downstairs and lied her on the sleeping bag. I started to go back upstairs wen Grayson stopped me. "It's your turn to watch her. I did last time."
~cliche flashback ended~
When the girl woke up, she woke up screaming. I've never seen someone look so terrified. I told her everything that happened, told her everything I was told to say.
"You are the reason you're here. In this basement. On this cold floor. You were the mistake, and still are." I had to get close to her face afterwards. "Welcome to your worst nightmare."
I sat in this box, full of darkness, while my worst nightmare took place.
