The next morning Derek wasn't laying beside me like he normally was. I looked around the house but still I couldn't find him. Miles and Desiret were still asleep. Later that day Derek showed up at the door like had the day before, but he was different. He was more distant than normal. He was like that the whole time he was there, up until he just left. He didn't come back after that.
The phone rang and I answered with a sickening feeling. "It's time to go, princess." I left the house with another well placed lie. My mom's words were swirling around inside my head, 'A relationship built on lies isn't a relationship at all'. What would she think of me now, all I did was lie. I wish she was here. I needed her advice on what to do. She had always been right and every time I followed her advice I felt better.
I pulled into Nick's shooting range and felt my skin crawling. I had done as he asked and wore a sports bra and shorts, but I had put a hoodie and sweatpants over them. My hair was pulled back in a tight pony-tail and it swished back and forth as I walked into the gates of hell.
Nick was waiting for me at the door to his little shop of horror. I removed my hoodie and sweatpants. Nick strapped me back down to the chair and hooked me up to his machines. My heart was in my throat and I almost felt sick to be in this psycho's grasps again.
"Today we are going to test your healing using knives. I will make small incisions and record the time it takes to heal. I will then proceed to see how deeper or larger wounds heal." He looked at my skin which still wasn't fully healed from yesterday. He got out his recorder and I felt like a lab rat. His cameras were on and ready to record my pain. "The subject's skin is still not all the way healed from the wolf's bane. It is a very strange reaction compared to other werewolves, which supports my claim of her specialty. I have placed two buckets under the subjects left and right arm to collect blood for measurement and analysis."
"You know you are one really sick person. I'm a human being and you are treating me like I'm just some science experiment. I hope you know there will be a very special kind of place for you in hell."
"Subject seems to be demonstrating an increased level of irritation as compared to yesterday. This agitation could be to a stimulus caused by the events from the day before or could be a sign of her animalistic behavior taking over. The subject also perceives herself as human, most likely due to the limited time since her first shift." Nick wheeled out a cart with sharp objects laid across it. My mind flashed back to the night in the basement, when I saw Rune. The knives and scalpels covered in his blood. Now him and I were the same. Our blood will be spilt and our screams cherished. The only difference was I had done nothing to deserve this.
"I will now make the first incision along the antebrachial." Nick picked up a small scalpel and places it on my skin. He looked me in the eyes before pressing the blade into my skin. I glared back at him refusing to give him the satisfaction. He moved the blade up my arm at a slow agenizing pace. The machines were going off and Nick recorded the information they gave out. Nick went back to my wrist and sawed at my wrist like it was a piece of steak. I still held my tongue and Nick's face tightened. I know he was trying to get me scream and I was making him mad when I remained silent. He switched from blade to blade, but still I was able to hold off from screaming. This was nothing compared to the pain I felt yesterday. He grabbed a kitchen knife from the cart. He plunged the knife into my gut and twisted it slowly. I fought the scream that was coming, but still it appeared in a muffled tone. That was enough to get Nick to smile.
"You said I was the key to something, so tell me how is burning my flesh and carving my skin supposed to lead you to this thing that would help you do whatever you want."
"The subject is trying to gain sympathy by conversing with me and rationalizing my intentions." He removed the knife from my gut and I felt the hole heal as the blade left my skin. "Subject's response to the large puncture is more advanced then the records of any werewolf before her. The buckets have only collected a few drops of blood which is strange for the species. I will test the blood to see if any abnormalities are present."
