Once I got to my Uncle's house I unlocked the door with the key he had given me. All the lights are off and I figure my Uncle's asleep. I close the door and lock it behind me and head up to my new room. My Uncle had set up a room for me in his guest room and tried to get it to look like my old room back home. I flopped onto the bed and looked at the alarm clock on the night stand. The time was one o'clock in the morning. I closed my eyes not even bothering to get my stuff out of the truck. Sleep consumed me and I drifted off into sleep.

I woke to a little nock on the door. I got up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. It was eight in the morning and I got up to open my bedroom door. "Thank goodness your home. I would have been calling in the military if you weren't here yet." My Uncle said jokingly making me smile a little bit. I was still tired and spoke softly.

"Sorry, I hit a dog last night and had to find a vet."

"A dog, no wonder you were late! I remember when you where little you used to run up to every dog you saw and just start petting it. I bet you stayed till the vet kicked you out, huh?"

"Yeah I just wanted to make sure he was ok." I was leaning against the door and my eyes were just starting to open to their normal place.

"I made breakfast if you want it and I'll help you unpack when we're done."

"Sounds great just give me a sec." He nods and walks back down stairs to the kitchen. I close the door and walk into the bathroom that was attached to my room. Once I turn on the light I am shocked Uncle hadn't freaked. I was covered in dried blood, my once white tank top was almost solid red and hard crusty blood stuck to my arms. I sneak out to my truck and grab a suitcase and run back to the bathroom. I hop in the shower and let the warm water wash over me. Red water swirls down the drain as I wash off the blood. Once clean I throw on a royal blue tank top and some skinny jeans. I head down stairs to the kitchen.

I am greeted with the smell of delicious homemade pancakes. I grab a few and put them on my plate. I sit across from Uncle at a small circular table that was in the kitchen. I gobbled down the pancakes remembering I hadn't eaten last night planning to arrive before one in the morning. "So what do you want to do today?" Uncle asks before taking a sip of his orange juice.

"Well I wanted to go back to the vet to see how the dog was doing but I didn't really think you would have time to do anything." My Uncle worked as a cop and all I could remember from when I visited him here was him always having to leave. I lived out of town before so Uncle had always gone there for family gatherings to prevent him from being called back to work.

"I took the day off to help settle you in and show you around. You haven't been here since you were six. Wow it's really been ten years since you were last here." He says thinking about how long it had been. We had still seen each other those ten years but it was always away from this town. "And I'm leaving the radio at home so you and I will have the whole day to ourselves."

"You really don't have to; I know your job is important."

"Don't be ridicules I have someone to cover my shift and some other guys are on call. Now I'll bring in your suitcases and bring them up to your room while you go check up on that dog. Then I will show you around town and introduce you to people you will probably see on a normal bases." I smile at him and clean up my dishes and grab my truck keys. Once in the car I head to the vet.
