From the shocked looks that everyone around seemed to share I could gather that nobody had ever seen him smile much less kneel to someone's level.
Once my initial shock wore off I rushed over to Sam and quickly picked her up holding her tightly towards my body. The frown that graced Vlad's face told me that this didn't make him very happy, not one bit.
"Nice to see you are doing well Love" he said all early happiness gone and instead replaced with his signature placid face. Seeing him like that sent shivers done my spine, he never looked at me like that. That was the mask he put on when he was conducting serious business.
Vlad wasted no time, he simply gestured his hand towards a nearby black sedan causing all his man to spring into action. The burly men all around closed in on Daniel snatching Ben from his arms causing Vlad to growl an angry "You hurt him I hurt you".
Some tall tattooed man ushered me and Sam into the car not giving me time to argue or apologize to a confused Daniel. Once in the car I pulled Ben and Sam on either side of me. I knew that Vlad would never hurt me or our children but then again, did I even really know him to begin with?
I looked out the window to see a dazed and confused Daniel. Realizing there was no reason in attempting to give him a reassuring smile due to the fact that the windows were most likely tinted completely black, which happened to be illegal but I doubt the police were dumb enough to say anything.
Vlad was driving which honestly made me feel more safe. Looking out the window I began to make mental notes of landmarks we passed just in case, which proved to be quite difficult due to the fact we had entered a forest which consisted of many twist a turns.
Sam and Ben spoke in hushed voices to one another completely ignoring the fact that I was sitting in-between them and could hear everything they were saying.
Sam was being bubbly as usual "Benny did you see all those bald dudes! Maybe they were aliens. Are we getting abducted?!?!"
To which Ben replied "Sammy calm down you are making mum nervous"
Causing Sam to mutter a quiet "Sorry Benny I didn't mean to, but what if they are trying to steal mommy's brain or something?"
Ben just rolled his eyes while silently glaring at the back of Vlad's head. Well I guess at least my children were on my side if you counted Sam kicking Vlad in the shin.
I couldn't help but smile at their playful banter but the smile was quickly wiped from my face as we approached a place I knew all too well.
