I am terrified of you, for you.
Of the possibility that lurks inside you,
Of the diagnosis that will come to define you.
I tremble to think that we could lose you,
To a condition that yet still could abuse you.
You know nothing more of this than me,
And I feel the fear when you smile beside me.
No matter what you will not live alone,
We will remain beside you and smile while machines drone.
You always will have a home.
You are beautiful and loved,
And no matter how many doctor's visits we may have to dread,
I will sit beside you,
No matter the tremble in your smile
Nor the hair upon your head.
I think of you now and pledge to thee,
That I will stay beside you until you no longer want me,
And yet I will think of you still,
And send to you hope and tortured good will.
So no matter what happens next,
Know that I remain.
Lean upon me if you can not stand,
And cry without shame.
