Better than words

Chapter 6

Brooks glared at James as he interrupted us.

"Can you not?" He snickered which made me smile.

Seeing James being humiliated for once as his cheeks went red made my day.

"Uhm... Come on, we re playing truth or dare..." He grabbed my hand and took me into the hallway leaving Brooks in the bedroom.

"What the hell was that Julia?"

Why does HE care what I am doing?

"Like you care, you're just a lying dick and all you want to do is humiliate me again,"

Why DID he care?

He hesitated, but kept his grip on my arm.

He withdrew but said, "Is that really what you think?"

His orbs met mine, but I looked away quickly.

"Get away from her, James,"

I am relieved Brooks came out and made him get away from me.

James' jaw clenched but he walked away.

I walked down with Brooks with James shortly behind.

We walked to the big circle in the backyard.

As annoyed as I am, I'm still relieved to see Ciara, Caroline and Lisa motioning me to come sit next to them.

I sit down and Brooks sits next to me.

Ciara is leaning into her boyfriend, Austin and grins in a confused way. I give her a look that says 'I will explain everything later' and she nods.

As we start I eagerly wait for Neil to pick someone.

"Ok... Chris, truth or dare?"

"Dare," he says, smiling.

Just as I am about to stop playing, I am dared to take a drink.

"I don't drink," I say, a bit irritated.

"Well that's what makes it fun," said a drunk girl.

I am handed a bottle and I examine it before putting it to my lips.

"You don't have to do it," whispered Brooks.

I shrug and take a sip larger than I intended.

I cough and gag as everyone laughs and cheers.

I realize I am sitting right across from James and I see him stare at me but put his arm around Summer who leans into him, obviously aware that I see them.

I glare at him and put my arm around Brooks and smirk.

He frowns, and I like it. If he wants to play this game, whatever kind it is, so can I.
