Noelle woke up and slowly rolled out of bed. She peaked her head threw the window, and realized it was early morning. It was still dark out, and the normally sunny sky was ink black and scattered with stars. The girls eyes lit up with excitement, realizing that today was the day she would be leaving for her new life.
Noelle Décès was an orphan; she never knew her mother or father, and had been moving from home to home since before she could remember. But everything changed the moment she got her letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A new world had been opened to her. She had somewhere to belong, even if she had no idea of what was to come with it.
That morning passed at a snails pace. It was as if someone had made the clocks move a thousand times slower than normal. Noelle had already bought all the materials needed for the strange school at a bustling place called Diagon Alley. It was a strange place, Diagon Alley was-- wizards and witches crowded the streets, and odd stores lined up at every corner. A wizard bank was the centerpiece for the place, and Noelle was relieved to find out she had enough gold locked away in one of the vaults there to fill an entire lake. It didn't quite sit right with the girl that she had this much money- where had it come from? Who's was it? For it surely it wasn't hers- she had never had more than five pounds to show off to anyone when she was considered a muggle. But in the Wizarding world, she was rich. There was an entire vault filled with gold under the Décès name.
Noelle began to go over everything on the list that was needed for Hogwarts for the seventh time that morning. When she finished, it seemed it was finally time to go to the Kings Cross Station. Luckily, Noelle was within walking distance of the place. She pulled her trunk to the station, gaining many odd stares from passing strangers. The girl didn't care, though, for she was used to second glances and wavering eyes that followed her. Noelle checked her paper with all the information in it quickly, and realized she wasn't exactly sure where to go.
"Platform 9 3/4. 11:00 am" She read to herself, rather shakily.
The girl wandered around the station hopelessly, desperate for any notion that would tell her where to find 'Platform 9 3/4,' for Noelle knew that no such place existed.
"Come along, Sirius! Quickly! We must be on time for the Hogwarts Express."
Noelle's head turned so sharply, she could have sworn she broke her neck. The Hogwarts Express- that was where she was headed, too. She followed the boy and his mother, taking note of her grip on his arm.
"Go!" The women hissed, pushing the boy through a wall where he disappeared. Noelle did a double take. They had just walked through a wall. That was most certainly not normal. The girl checked a clock that hung on a wall nearby, taking in the time. It was 10:56. She had four minutes to get onto the Express. Deciding it was her best bet, Noelle wearily walked towards the wall, pushing her trunk with trouble. She walked into-- no, through, the wall, closing her eyes, and hoping for the best.
When he girl opened her eyes again, she nearly fainted. A large steam engine train was in front of her, with the words 'Hogwarts Express' written across the trunk of it. Noelle looked around, wide eyes trying to take in everything at once. Parents were fussing goodbyes to their children, countless trunks and bundles of luggage were littering the ground, and students were crowding around the trains entrances.
"Wow," Noelle mumbled to herself, dropping her trunk off where everyone else seemed to be putting theirs and clambering onto the locomotive. The girl looked around the train, hoping to find a place to sit that wasn't too crowded. After wandering the aisles for more than a couple minutes, Noelle spotted a compartment that only held two students. She tugged the door open and smiled graciously at the occupants.
