Ashton is Lauren's big brother. He's a senior at the local high school, 6' 3", and a punk rock drummer in a band with his three best friends.

I call you up when I know he's at home, I jump out of my skin when he picks up the phone
I pick up my house phone, going into the contacts and dialing the number to Lauren's house.
I'm just calling her house so I can talk to Ashton. Does that sound desperate?
I jump when I hear Ashton's voice.
"Hi, Irwin residence. Ashton speaking!" His cheerful voice rings through the phone.
"Hi Ashton, this is Luke." I say, hitting myself for being so boring.
"Hey Luke. Um, don't you have a cellphone?" He asks.
Damnit, I knew my motives would be questioned.
"M-my phone died. And I don't know Lauren's cell number, and my house phone has your house phone number in the contacts. That's why." I lie quickly.
"Oh, okay. Would you like to talk to Lauren?" Ashton asks.
"I don't know, I think she's mad at me or something." I lie again.
"That's strange. Do you want me to talk to her for you?" Ashton's voice grows concerned.
"No, I'm good. Thanks anyways."
"Okay. Hey Luke, if you ever need anything or need to talk to someone, I'm here, okay?"
And at that moment, I think my heart melted.
"T-thank you, Ashton. I have to go now. Talk to you later."
"Bye Luke." I can hear his smile from over the phone, then he hangs up.
What happened to 'you hang up' 'no you hang up'?
Oh yeah, probably the fact that we aren't dating.
I know it's wrong to be crushing on my best friend's brother, but I just can't help it.
