PRIYA APPROACHED KRISH CAUTIOUSLY. The man in question looked even smaller than usual, what with the rather lanky Priya standing right by him, along with the crouching position he was in.

It had been quite some time since Krish and Annette's relationship went kaput. But he hadn't been taking it very well. In fact, Krish was currently sitting on the first steps of the opulent staircase, looking deep in thought. The image was almost like a bitter reminder to Priya of how ill-fitting he was with her. She shook the thought away and set herself down next to him.

"Hey." She had attempted at sounding softer and it worked. He looked up at her, seeming as confused as a small child being prompted by an adult. The head-on gaze was unexpected, and the fragile shine in his eyes was perplexing her.

"Oh, hey Priya," he said halfheartedly.

She straightened her skirt with her hands. "So, first breakup, huh?" Maybe it was too blunt. She was like that.

"It's nothing like that," Krish waved her off, ego slightly bruised.

Priya grinned. "Shakal toh dekho! [Look at your face!] This was your first girlfriend, wasn't it?"

Krish wrinkled his nose. "You wish. She just my first cru -" He bit his tongue at once, regretting his childhood bad habit of blurting things out.

Priya burst into laughter. "So you're telling me, the Krish Raichand has never had a girlfriend other than his childhood crush, who he just broke up with?"

"That's not true," he mumbled. A hazy image of Asmara began to arise behind his eyelids but he quickly shook the image away, glaring at the girl next to him. "Are you here to comfort me or make me feel worse?"

"First rule of girls," Priya hit his arm, smirking bemusedly when he flinched. "Don't expect them to have sympathy for you. Do I need to teach you everything?"

"I didn't ask you to." Krish tried to hide a pout.

"Waise ladki ke saath kya karna, tumko kaise pata hoge? [How would you know what to do with a girl?]" She turned her nose up haughtily.

"Oh really? Ladki ke saath aise karte hai? [Is this how you act with girls?]" He began flicking the spaghetti straps of her dress.

"Stop it, stop it, stop it, Krish!" She exclaimed, laughing, and he relented.

A comfortable silence washed over them.

"Listen," she - very purposefully - placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, "if you want to forget about this, I'm here, okay?"

Krish frowned. This seemed like incredibly odd behavior from someone like Priya. Maybe she was just sympathetic about the breakup and she actually did have a heart.

"Thanks, Priya," he said sincerely, giving her a slightly wobbly smile. She winked and walked away, leaving Krish both wide-eyed and flabbergasted.

But Priya's planned departure wasn't exactly smooth; she found herself crashing into the hard chest of Yuvraaj Raichand, his smile much too bright for her liking. She tried to ignore how oddly starstruck he was looking.

"Priya, hey!" He straightened the two of them up.

Priya clenched her fists, willing herself to not to get distracted by the hope and sincerity in his eyes. Hope was a dangerous thing, she believed. Left you wishing and dreaming and expecting and full of desires, only to leave you sitting alone in the cold.

"Hey," she said weakly.

He frowned. "Everything okay?" Reassured by her hesitant nod, he grinned again. "Listen, Sahil's opening up a new bar tonight! Grand opening. Wanna come?"
