PRIYA WALKED RATHER STEALTHILY UP TO KRISH'S ROOM, trying her hardest not to bump into a certain young Raichand. And she almost succeeded, too. If only she hadn't underestimated him.

The man in question appeared from seemingly nowhere before grabbing her hands and pulling her aside.

"What the hell are you doing?!" Priya exclaimed, struggling to pry herself out of his grasp. She avoided his blazing gaze, his eyes that were burning with fury.

"What the hell are you doing, Priya?!" He let go of her hands at once and for a split second, she swore she saw defeat in his eyes, before it was replaced by stone cold indifference.

She crossed her arms stubbornly. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Yuvi snickered. "You can try and act all you want, but I'm not buying it." Priya opened her mouth and closed it, scrappling for words.

He crossed his arms, trying to decipher why she refused to meet his eyes. "You were with me for so long. We were almost inseparable. And suddenly you go after my cousin? Something's not right." His tone was hard and sharp at the edges.

She met him with direct eye contact this time, determined to quieten him. "Maybe he's into me," Priya cut back roughly, shrugging with an air of causality.

"That's a given. But you don't like him." She was a little taken aback by the bluntness of Yuvi's tone, and was finding it rather difficult to fight him.

"I didn't say that," she said. But a moment too late, and Yuvi had caught on to this fact.

He threw his head back with taunting laughter.

"You expect me to believe that the Miss Priya Kapoor is going this crazy over a guy? You don't like Krish. Try again," his voice lowered dangerously.

"I don't owe you any explanation, okay?" Priya pointed an accusing finger directly at his chest.

There was his answer.

"Why are you suddenly so interested in me anyway?" She stepped back at him with a face that said she definitely knew the answer.

Yuvi bit his lip, suddenly at a loss, but quickly recovered. "I care about my brother."

Priya was the one to scoff this time. "Yeah, right. Your brother is a big boy. He can handle himself. Try again," she said mockingly.

"We were friends."

"Friends. Friends don't control each other, okay?! You don't own me. No one has, and no one ever will. Typical man," she sneered at him. Seeing him tongue-tied, she took the invitation to continue, feigning laughter.

"Oh! I get it. You expected me to get down on my knees and profess my undying love for you. Isn't it, Mr. Yuvraaj Raichand? Well guess what. I'm not. You may have been my friend, but that was all." The words were increasingly hurting her physically to say. But she had to. She knew she had to, and she refused to let anything get in her way.

Yuvi's face visibly fell at that.

Locking his jaw with either pain or anger - or rather, a fiery mixture of both - he moved in closer to her, his hot breath hitting her pale face. His voice deepened with the proximity. "I don't know what it is you're trying to do here, but I won't let you get away with it."

Priya knew it was pointless to argue that she wasn't up to something. "I'd like to see you try," she whispered. Placing two palms on his chest, she pushed him away and turned to leave.

Only to find Krish standing there with a crestfallen expression.

Seconds ticked by. The three stood frozen.

Krish looked away and Priya's face softened.

"Krish -"

But he turned away before she could finish.

. . .

THE INEVITABLE RAICHAND FAMILY MEETING WAS BACK. This time, it was only Yuvi, Krish, and Rahul. Anjali was home cleaning the house for some reason unknown to them, whereas Pooja and Rohan had gone with Daijaan somewhere. Clearly these men were not very observant.

The oldest Raichand was a little too delighted to conclude that Priya and Krish's relationship had gone sour. The negative part was that Krish was back to sulking, yet again.

But he had made up with Yuvi.

"I guess I should really trust you more, huh?" Krish had smiled at his younger cousin, who shook his head good-naturedly.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier. I didn't want to see you hurt again."

They didn't hug it out, though. It was too weird.

Presently, the two of them, back on good terms, sat at the table with Rahul. Krish was slightly less miserable, and Yuvi was sympathetic yet happy.

But there was something about that Priya girl that didn't quite sit well with Rahul. Was it because she was Naina's daughter? Or was there some other reason? He couldn't put his finger on it.

The unproductive and rather silent meeting was cut short soon after by the entry of Anjali Raichand in all her glory, carrying a broom.

The three men stared at the woman of the house, running back and forth, dusting the counters, adjusting the flower pots, straightening the rugs, and reorienting the throw pillows whilst muttering to herself.

"Anjali, itna tension kyun mein kyun ho? [Why are you so worried?]" Rahul asked his wife, frowning.

She stopped at once. Her broom clattered onto the floor. She turned slowly to face her husband. Her worried face instantly transformed into one of sheer fury.

"Leh. Yeh lo, mera pati parmeshwar. [Look at my dear husband.] You forgot, didn't you?" She crosse her arms across her chest, looking at him expectantly. He looked away from his fiery wife. She turned to her son and nephew, who also avoided her gaze.

"HAYE RABBA! Kya kar rahe the tum log itne din? Maine tum logon ko ek mahine se keh rahi thi! [OH GOD! What were you all doing all this time? I've been telling you for a whole month!] They will be here any minute! UGGHHHH!" She groaned in annoyance. "Useless men."

"Uh, who, Ma?" Krish asked nervously.

Yuvi whispered, "I think DJ's friend is staying with us?"

"HAYE RABBA! [OH GOD!]" Anjali moaned. "Tum logon ko main - [I'm gonna - ]"

But she was interrupted by Daijaan's voice.

"Look who's here!" she beamed proudly.

The boys stood up to greet their guest, but Krish froze immediately.

It had been a long time, but she possibly seemed even more beautiful than the last time he'd seen her. Raven hair that fell in curls, a simple salwar suit the color of honeydew melon, large doe eyes. Her cheeks were glowing with a rosy blush as always. A pair of anklets chimed their way in with their silvery song.

Krish swallowed hard, but he didn't dare to say anything. There was only one word in his mind, questioning at him, picking at his mind with doubt. But there really was no doubt. He knew who he was seeing.

Asmara.
