I heard my mom call for me so I knew dinner was done. This is going to be fun. I walked into the dining. I frowned seeing Riley sitting right across where I always sit. I sat down as my mom and his dad walked out with the plates. He placed on in front of me and my placed one in front of Riley. I stared down at the spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread on my plate. I forked my meatball and bit into it. Awkward silence flipped the room.
"So how was school?" My mom asked.
I didn't say anything. I didn't even look up from my plate.
"It was okay." Riley responded. "We have a essay to write by the end of this week."
"Oh, what is it about." My mom asked him.
"Family." He sighed.
"I'm not writing it...I can't" I sighed.
"Why not." His dad asked.
"If I write...I'll have to write about hi..." Tears threatened, I took a deep breath.
Just breathe Samantha, just breathe.
I looked up from my plate and saw Riley staring at me. I stayed quite after that. Memories from my past flooded my mind. I used to dance. I was more opened. Now, I keep myself closed off. I only talk to Amy. I tell her everything. I sighed.
"Sam..." My mom reached for me.
"What happened?" John 'Riley's dad' asked.
I opened my mouth to tell him but I closed it. My mom hasn't told him yet? I looked her. Her eyes watery and red. I stood.
"Excuse me." I left the table.
I went into the bathroom. I balled up on the floor. Tears fell like a waterfall. It felt like I couldn't breathe. I gasped for air. I soon realized that I was having a panic attack. I thought about my dad's death too much. I was there which made it worse. I couldn't save him. I laid there and watched as he bleed to death. I was stood deep in thought that I didn't even hear him come in. I heard him scream. His tattooed arms wrapped around me. My mom rushed in. She feel to her knees. I closed my eyes and buried my face into Riley's chest. I took a deep breathe. His scent. It calmed me. He smelled to good. What's that scent...Old Spice Fresh. I felt my body relax as I was breathing in his scent.
He picked me up and brought me into my room. His eyes searched mine before he left. My mom walked in with herbal tea. I sat up and took the coffee cup. I sipped on it. I smiled. My favorite. Mint.
"Sam, what caused that?" My mom asked me. "You haven't had a panic attack in months."
"I thought too much about his death." I sipped on my tea.
"It's not your fault hun." She gave me a sad smile.
"I wish I could have saved him. I wanted to save him." I refused to cry even though the tears threatened.
"You were lucky Riley heard you." She smiled. "It was weird. He knew something was wrong."
"Yeah." I frowned and sipped more on my mint tea.
Why is it that he was able to calm me down? Was it his scent? The Old Spice Fresh cologne? I sighed and finished my tea. My mom left with the cup. I got up and went into the dining room. I grabbed my plate and went into my room. Riley gave me as sad look along with his dad. I hated pity.
I grabbed my phone and dialed up Amy on face-time. I need to tell her this. After the third ring she picked up.
"So I had a panic attack." I said as I swirled noodles on my fork.
"Omg! What happened?" She looked worried.
"I thought took much of my dad's death...I'm fine." I nodded.
"You sure?" She asked.
"Yeah, Riley is the reason I calmed down. It was strange. Once I got a whiff of his cologne I was calm, my body relaxed and I was back to normal." I explained.
"Wow, tell me more tomorrow. I need sleep. Night babes." She blow a kiss at me and hung up.
I smiled and balled up in my covers. The plate laid at the foot of my bed.

I woke up from glass shattering. I jumped up and realized that it was only the plate from last night. Oops. I laid back in bed. I moved so that I was staring at the broken plate. Broken. Like me.
I've been hurt. My heart as has been ripped out. Shattered. How could he? He left me not even knowing why or what I did wrong. I guess I wasn't good enough. Now I'm left with memories and a broken heart. Not even time can heal this.
"What in the world, Sam." My mom walked in with nothing but a robe on.
"I can say the same to you." I laughed.
"I was in the shower and John said he heard glass break." She frowned.
"He couldn't come and check it out himself?" I gave her a smug look.
She rolled her eyes and left my room. I got up and took care of the broken glass. I realized that once something is broken you can't fix it. If you did. It wouldn't be the same. I sighed and got dressed in a black short sleeve bodysuit, putting on shorts over it. I grabbed my black vans and put those on. I grabbed my bag and phone with headphone before I left my room.
"Bye!" I shouted.
"Wait, Riley is driving you." My mom called out making me stop in my tracks. "I need you borrow your car so Riley will be taking you."
"Are you serious." I was too in shock to show any emotion on my face.
"Nope, now give me your car keys." She smile at me.
I grabbed my keys from my bag and gave them to her.
"Hurt my mom and you'll regret ever having." I was beyond serious with those words.
