CHAPTER 21
CHARLIE'S POV:
Our weekend went by way to fast.
~
There are two months left before graduation. Finals are in a month and a half, so my teachers have already started their crammed reviews of the whole courses. Luckily, most of my homework is busy work and isn't actually hard so it only takes me an hour or two to finish.
We had our final dress fittings today. All of the bridesmaids' dresses and my dress fit perfectly. The girls have their dresses already, but the store is holding onto mine until the day of the wedding, so Caleb doesn't see it.
When I got home, it was getting late, so I went upstairs and collapsed on my bed. I heard a noise at my window and realized that rocks were being thrown at my window. I got up to yell at the dumbass who might break my window and saw that Caleb was standing by the word PROM. The sun was setting, but I could see that the letters were spelled with baseballs. I ran down the stairs and attacked Caleb. We both fell into the grass and I kissed him.
"So is that a yes?" Caleb asked.
"Of course it is," I laughed and Caleb helped me up. I kissed Caleb's cheek and said, "Have I told you that you're the best?"
Caleb laughed and said, "Only eighteen times in the past week. How many people get to say that they are picking out their Senior Prom dress and wedding dress at the same time?"
"Don't remind me," I said rolling my eyes. "Actually, not me. My last dress fitting was today and I haven't even looked at Prom dresses."
My mom and dad came out with the camera and insisted on taking photos. Not that I minded, I need photos to go in our house.
Caleb stayed with me that night, but I didn't get much sleep because Robin called me to tell me how Nate asked her to prom. Apparently he woke her up, carried her downstairs, and had made pancakes with whip creme that spelled PROM? I just hung up on her. Caleb rolled over and mumbled somthing at me. I told him just to go back to sleep, so he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him.
~
The past month has flown by. I've been stressed out about the wedding, prom, and graduation. I finished my exams, so that's one burden off of my shoulder. I finally have all of the details of the wedding sorted out, so now all that's left is the big day itself.
Robin and I had gone prom dress shopping three weeks ago and they've been in my closet until now. Robin French braided my hair into a bun and I slipped my deep-purple, one-shoulder dress on. It fell to the floor and the strap had fake, purple and white pansies along it that ran down the neck line. I put on the flats that Caleb had gotten me for my birthday and looked in the mirror.
Robin had on a light-green, floor-length dress with a sweetheart neckline. She had on heels, of course, but I have no idea how she walks in them.
We walked down the stairs and Caleb and Nate were talking with my dad. When they heard Robin's heels on the stairs, they all looked at us. My dad went to get the camera and Caleb walked over to me, wrapping his arm around his waist. I kissed his cheek and my mom and dad came back to take pictures.
We finally told them that we had to go and I kissed my parents on the cheek, hugged them, and we left. We al went to dinner before the dance. The hotel where the school decided to have this year's prom turned out great. We all moved onto the dance floor and even though none of us can dance, we had the time of our lives.
After a while, our principle called for everyone's attention, so he could announce Prom King and Queen. He opened the envelope for King and said, "Wow... This young man has probably had the worst year in the history of senior classes. I can't express how grateful I am for him to be here, so... without further adue, your Prom King, Caleb Smith."
Applause rose up and I squeezed Caleb's hand before he went up on stage. They placed a cown on his head and our principle quieted everyone down. He opened the envelope for Prom Queen and said, "Well this is a change, but very appropriate. She has also had one of the hardest years I can think of. However, not only am I congratulating them as Prom King and Queen, but also on their engagement. Ladies and Gentlemen, your Prom Queen, Charlie Holton."
I walked up on stage and they placed a little silver crown on my hand and handed me a bouquet of flowers. As we walked off stage, slow music came on and setting my flowers on one of the tables, Caleb whisked me into the center of the dance floor. He spun me around and wrapped his arms around my waist. Caleb pulled me closer to him and I draped my arms over his shoulders.
"Have I told you how beautiful you are? Because you are the prettiest girl in the whole room," Caleb whispered in my ear.
I laughed at him and asked, "Have I told you what a good slow dancer you area? Because I'm pretty sure you just made every single girl jealous that you're mine."
I laid my head on Caleb's chest and as the song finished up, most people were beginning to leave. Caleb drove Robin and Nate back to Nate's house and I figured that we would just go home, but Caleb started driving towards the school.
He pulled into the back lot and I asked, "What are we doing here?"
"Just come on," Caleb said as he pulled a blanket out of the trunk.
Caleb took my hand and led me out to the batting cages. He laid down the blanket and I laid down next to him.
"Charlie, I brought you out here because this is the spot where my life changed forever. You told me you loved me before I got the chance to tell you first, but I wouldn't have it any other way. That day you told me you loved me, was the day that I knew I wanted you to be mine for forever and always."
I looked at Caleb with tears rolling down my face and said, "It's perfect."
Caleb kissed my cheek and we looked up at the night sky for hours. Eventually we headed back to Caleb's house and I was exhausted. I stepped out of my dress and climbed into bed, not bothering to put any pajamas on. Caleb hung up my dress for me and his suit before laying down next to me. Caleb wrapped his arm around my waist and yanked me closer to him. I snuggled up against him and he kissed the back of my head before I drifted off to sleep.
