Ruby's POV:
Sapphire Net, Sapphire Net, was all I could think of as I hauled ass to my first class. If I wanted any chance of making Ms. Blue Diamond like me I had to make sure I at least wasn't late on the first day.
My sneakers were sliding across the marble as I turned sharply down a hall and ran through a corridor.
I stopped at the door that I was sure was my class and caught my breath, but once I opened the door and stepped into the classroom, I lost it all over again. You've GOT to be kidding me.Sapphire's POV
I took long strides through the halls, shrugging my bag on my shoulder to avoid me dropping anything else. I smoothed my bangs back over my eyes and quickened my pace.
I tried to think of potential plans to be successful in all of my classes but all I could think of was her. That curly brown hair, those caring brown eyes... no. School is not about fickle relationships and "love", it's about shaping your future. And mine will be the greatest.
I walked into my class and took a seat in the middle row. Ms. Blue Diamond was on the phone with someone so I quietly got started reading the text book. I sensed someone in the back of the class throw something at the back of my head. My reflexes kicked in and I quickly held out my hand and caught it.
I turned around to the back of the class, ready to give my icy stare to some jackass but I saw Rachel mouthing "Read it!" while pointing to the ball of paper in my hand.
I opened the crumpled paper and read the message.
"You've totally got the hots for Ruby", it read.
"No I do not. And how would you know? You haven't seen us interact." I mouthed to Rachel. She got up from her seat and leaned against my desk.
"When my sister knocks over my best friend and half the hallway, I know about it. Plus, Peridot was part of that hallway and saw the way you two looked at each other." Rachel chided, a big smirk on her face.
I got up from my seat and put my hand to my chest for dramatics and said "I am not in love, and I don't plan to be while only in high school." I strode over to the trash next to the doorway. Just as the paper hit the bottom, someone slammed into me. Again.
I looked up after falling onto my back at who knocked me over again, but who I saw got my heart racing. "Ruby?" I asked, surprised Ruby had managed to knock me over twice in twenty minutes. You've got to be KIDDING me! At least I didn't fall onto someone this time, I thought to myself.Ruby's POV:
I can't believe this! I've made her fall twice now! Get up, you idiot and help her! I thought to myself. I quickly jumped up and pulled her to feet, again. Man I was having a serious case of deja vu.
I tried to lighten the mood and make her smile by laughing a little and saying, "I'm sorry! Oh man, we've gotta stop meeting like this!" Sapphire blushed a little and laughed, flashing her perfect white teeth.
"Yes, we do. I'd rather meet somewhere professional instead of on the ground." Sapphire told me, still smiling. We stood there at the doorway, still staring at each other, when our awkward staring contest was cut short by Ms. Blue Diamond.
"WHAT are you two doing?" Ms. Blue D said with her calm but powerful voice. I could tell it was directed more at me than both of us. Sapphire started to speak, "I, uh-" I cut her off and said, "It was me! I accidentally knocked her over but I helped her back up, Ms. Diamond." I told Ms. Blue D, but the way her expression didn't change, I knew she didn't really care what happened, just that it did. "Ruby, see me during lunch for detention." Blue D told me, her expression remaining cold.
I lowered my head in defeat, but Sapphire spoke up. "Ms. Diamond that isn't very fair. Ruby knocked me over by accident and apologized so if she has lunch detention, so do I." Sapphire said confidently. I was amazed she could sound so confident to a teacher like Blue D. "Very well. Both of you will see me. Now, take your seats." she said before turning on her heal and sauntering over to her desk.
"That was so cool, Sapphire! Thanks for standing up for me like that." I said, slightly shy. "You don't have to thank me, you were being treated unfairly and you took the blame. Anyway, we should take our seats." Sapphire said. She smiled again and went to sit down.Sapphire's POV:
I gave Ruby another smile and went to sit back at my original desk. What have I gotten myself into? I gave myself a lunch detention for someone I don't even know? It doesn't matter, what's done is done, I thought to myself.
I noticed Ruby sit with her friends, Jasper and Amethyst. I resumed going over the textbook when Ms. Diamond silenced the class with a look that Blue Pearl enforced to the other kids. That teachers-pet.
"Ok class, listen up. To give me an idea of the type of students you are, we're doing a group project."
Some kids groaned, others payed no attention, and most started looking to their friends for partners.
"I will be picking the groups, so you may stop looking to your friends." Ms. Diamond said, which made everyone groan. I'll admit I got a bit discouraged.
"The project will be due next week on Wednesday and shall be about whatever your group chooses. If you choose anything inappropriate, offensive, or lewd, you will get an automatic zero. Now, let's begin. Peridot, Lapis, Jasper, and Rachel are group one. Ruby, Amethyst, Pearl with the pink hair, Rose Quartz, and Sapphire are group two..." Ms. Diamond said and I felt a combination of excitement, nervousness, and dread. I never faired well in group projects, but with friends it would be easier. Are Ruby and I friends? I thought to myself. I guess we'll have to be.Ruby's POV:
I quickly scanned the classroom and found Jasper and Amethyst in the back corner. I slipped into the desk next to Jasper and took a deep breath.
"Oh my god you guys that was so embarrassing!" I said, finally taking a breath.
"Dude, was that the girl you slammed into in the hallway?" Amethyst asked in her usual nosy manner.
I nodded and dropped my textbook onto my desk. "So does everyone know about that now 'cause I don't remember you two in that hallway." I asked. Jasper and Amethyst both looked at each other and shrugged.
"Well yeah, Yellow Pearl saw it happen and she's the biggest gossip in the school. Sorry Rubes, she's probably told everyone now." Jasper told me, glaring at Yellow Pearl from across the room.
"Guys shut up Blue is talking!"
Amethyst whispered to us. I looked up at the front of the classroom. Blue D started talking about a new assignment to "see where we all are".
Jasper got paired up with Peridot and Lapis and Rachel, so I could figure out who would do work and who would slack off.
I wasn't paying attention to other groups being called an ended up on Instagram. I was sneaking peeks at Sapphire from across the room. God she looked so perfect. She had her hair brushed just the right way, her desk was already perfectly organized, and her bangs covered those beautiful blue eyes.
I was so caught up in looking at Sapphire that Amethyst had to punch me in the arm to get my attention.
"Rubes! We're in a group together!" Amethyst told me, giving me her signature "I'm up to something" grin.
I squinted my eyes and looked at her. "Who else is in our group?" I asked, very suspicious.
"Oh you know, that girl Rose, Pink Pearl, and the nerd Sapphire you knocked over twice!" Amethyst said and I paled, my eyes going wide. I turned and glanced at Sapphire. This is going to be a long project.A/n: I'm soooo sorry this chapter took so long I'm a lazy person but as you can see its longer than the rest so it took a lot of thinking. Anyway I thought it'd be a late Christmas present for y'all! Merr Chrismas or happy Hanukah or whichever you celebrate!
