Sapphire's POV:

I woke up to my alarm, "American Boy" by Estelle and Kanye West. It was one of my favorite songs, which made it the best thing to hear once I woke up. I got up out of bed and into my bathroom.
I went through my shower and morning routine and went through my closet for something to wear.
I put on a dark blue skirt that went to my knees, a white blouse, and white flats. I brushed my hair, situated my bangs and headed downstairs for some food.
My dad was already in the kitchen and was making French toast.
"Mind if I steal some, dad?" I asked.
"Well, I wouldn't make this big breakfast for just myself." my dad joked. I grabbed a plate and my dad put some toast on mine and his plate.
We sat down at the marble island and ate. We didn't say anything, but we knew the other was happy. Since mom is always at the office, dad and I eat together in the mornings and bond over nothing at all.
I finished my toast and put my plate in the sink. "Bye dad. Love you!" I said as I kissed his cheek, grabbed my bag and keys to my car, and jogged out of the door.

Ruby's POV:

My alarm went off and I slammed my fist on the snooze button, quickly stopping the noise. I
rubbed my eyes and got out of bed and crawled my way to the sink.
"Move Regina! You have a mirror in your room, do makeup there! Let me brush my teeth!" I yelled, trying to get space at the sink.
"Whatever! The mirror in my room is bigger anyway!" Regina said, annoyed. Regina always flips her hair whenever she's annoyed, and just once I'd like to yank that hair off her pretty little head, that makes me so mad.
I finally washed up and put on a red and black t shirt and a pair of black jeans. I went downstairs and sat at the kitchen island.
"Finally on time I see. Bag off the table, I've got breakfast incoming." my mom said. I nudged my basketball bag off the counter, letting it fall to the ground, and a bowl of cereal and strawberries were in front of me. I wolfed it down quick, burped, and hopped off the stool.
"Napkin, Ruby!" Rachel yelled from the living room. I growled and wiped my mouth before hugging my mom.
"Rachel! It's your turn to drive!" I yelled.
   "Alright, alright! I'm getting up!"
Rachel grabbed her bag with Regina right behind her.
"What's the rush, Ruby? Wanting to see Sapphire again?" Regina asked in a condescending tone and made kissy-faces at me like she was a child.
"Regina, you're seventeen. Stop acting seven." I said, pushing past her to get to the car. Regina tried getting in the front seat, but I pulled her back and slid in myself.
"Hey! I was already in! You can't do that!" she whined, stomping her foot.
"When you're older, you can do what you want. 'Til then..." I shrugged and closed the door and she reluctantly sat in the back seat and, right on cue, flipped her damn hair.

Sapphire's POV:

"Was your mom too hard on you?" Peridot asked me. Peridot is one of my closest friends and the only one who knows who my mom is; she's the only one who knows how hard it is to please her.
"Kind of. She wouldn't listen to my story, she just got straight to how "irresponsible" and "incompetent" I was being by getting detention on my first day of school. She said... she said "that's not how a Net would act."" I vented, getting angry at just the thought of that.
I made sure to always keep my composure even when I was angry, but "that's not how a Net would act" is what my mother has been telling me since I could remember. She'd say it whenever I did something that didn't live up to her standards. I've hated that sentence for so long. Again, only Peridot knew my anguish.
"Sapph, I'm so sorry. I know how hard she can be on you, but you do kind of have to be her heir at some point." Peridot tried to cheer me up, and I appreciated that, but I couldn't let it go.
"I feel like she's forcing an image of perfection on me and its stressful. I understand you, but her ways are borderline cruel." I said, letting out my frustrations. The bell rang and everyone broke their groups and left.
"I'll see you there, Peridot. Thank you for listening." I said, leaving to my locker.
