"No!" I screamed.
I stepped forward and a pair of arms instantly restrained me.
"Let me go!" I cried.
I kicked and punched the person restraining me, trying to get to Calleo. Pain shot through my body and I whimpered.
"Get her in the van." I heard someone mutter.
"Calleo!" I yelled as the person holding me pulled me towards a sleek black van.
He didn't move and the black mass of fur seemed to have a smug smile on its face. I yelled his name until my throat was sore. I didn't fight the men surrounding me, I just yelled Calleo's name. I kept hoping that he would get up and shake up the attack like it was nothing. Then he would save me.
Of course, that didn't happen.
He was dead.
Gone.
Not long after I was in the van, I passed out.
I woke up in a dark room. The tiny window above the soft matress I was lying on provided enough light for me to take in my surroundings. The mattress took up a majority of the room. There was a toilet and a sink in the corner and a stack of books in the other.
I sat up slowly, stopping when pain shoots through my body. I cried out and flopped back down.
"She's awake, Alpha!" A male voice yelled.
"Finally." another male voice muttered.
The metal door beside the mattress opened slightly and a tall man, maybe a few years older then me, walked in. He smiled softly when he saw me.
"You're awake." he said softly. He voice wasn't harsh like I expected it to be. It reminded me of silk.
I just nod, not trusting my voice.
"Are you thirsty?"
I nod. "And hungry."
"My beta will make you some food." he walked over to me and sat beside my head, his eyes on my face.
"You don't look good." he said. "Is your shoulder bothering you?"
I nod.
"Well, let's fix that." he lifts his wrist to his mouth and his canines enlarge as he bites him self. He brings his wrist to my mouth and I drink willingly. The pain in my body instantly dissolves. I pulled away and sighed with relief.
"Better?" he asked.
"Yes." I said, pushing myself up into a sitting position.
"I'm Alpha Luke. But, you can call me Luke."
"I'm guessing you already know my name." I muttered.
He chuckled. "Yes, I do. I've known it for a few months."
"Why do you want me, Luke?" I asked, getting right to the point. "Am I so important that you had to kill my father and...Calleo?" my chest tightens with his name.
"I didn't kill your father, Ellie." Luke said softly.
"Don't lie to me." I growl.
"I didn't kill your father. I made you believe that I did so you would turn yourself over. Your father is safe."
I didn't believe him.
"What about Calleo? My mate?" my hand dropped to my stomach.
"He's probably healed by now. But, he's not your mate."
"Yes. he is."
"No, he's not. You might've slept together, and you might be carrying his child, but he didn't mark you, and you didn't go through the ceremony with him. He's not your mate."
"It doesn't matter!" I yelled. "I love him!"
He let out a growl. "Don't test me, Ellie."
"Just let me go. Please."
He shook his head. "I won't. I want you to be my mate. And, as an Alpha, I have every right to take what i want."
"Not when I'm carrying another wolf's baby."
He smirked. "I have a way to work around that."
My body goes cold and I stiffen. "What do you mean?" I whispered.
"I'm not going to kill your child, Ellie." he said, guessing my thoughts. "I don't want you to hate me even more than you already do."
I relax a little. "Than what are you going to do?"
"Don't worry about it." he said softly, reaching out to run his fingers over my cheek.
My eyes locked with his. "My dad is alive?"
"Yes."
"Where is he?"
"In the room next to yours."
Relief flooded my body. "Can I see him? Please?"
Luke smiled. "After you get some food in you."
He stood up and took my hand in his, pulling me to my feet. His eyes ran over my body, taking in every inch. I look down, realizing i'm in the same cotton shorts and tank top I was in when I was taken.
"I'll get you another shirt." he said, touching the spot in my shirt that has a blood stain.
"Can I shower?"
"Before you eat?"
I nodded. "I feel...nasty."
He chuckled. "You look fine, but whatever you want."
He opened the metal door and led me out into a drafty hallway. I looked at the door beside the one we just walked through. My father is behind that door. Is he hurt? Hungry? thirsty? scared?
"Don't worry, Ellie." Luke said, seeing my eyes on the door. "We give him what he wants to."
"Are you going to let him go since you have me now?"
"That's up to you, Ellie."
I looked at him. "What's that mean?"
"If you want him to be let go, we'll take him back to your home. If you want him to stay here, then we'll keep him here. But, were not treating him as a hostage or a prisoner, more as a guest."
I think about the look on my mothers face when she walked through the cabins door; stricken with loss and pain. If she got him back, she would be happy again.
"I want to see that he's okay first, but then you can take him to my mother and brother." I tell Luke.
"As you wish. You can use the shower in my room." he said, leading me in the opposide direction of my dads room.
"Will I have to stay in that room?" I asked him.
He looked at me. "You can stay with me, if you want to."
I looked at him. He really wasn't what I imagined him to be. I thought he was going to be rude and controlling, but, so far, he's not. Just as I'm about to say yes, I think of Calleo. My mate. The father of the baby that's growing in my belly. Sleeping in the same bed as Luke would be betraying him. I couldn't do that. But, at the same time, I didn't want to spend the rest of my life in the horrible room I woke up in.
Sending Calleo a mental apology, I answered Luke.
"Okay."
