Chapter 24

Luke is actually my mate I kept repeating in my head in disbelief. Sage had gone, back to the spirt world or wherever she goes. I think she said to the Summer Lands.

"Answer me this, what happened when Luke kissed you?" Night asked, I think he's still a little bit mad.

"When we kissed Arianna got angry and was about to take control of me but I stopped before she could," I said thinking on my feet.

"Oh well that is good news," he said with his arms crossed. I snorted and walked off to the kitchen. I started to cook hamburgers.

Did you know that Luke's my mate? I asked Arianna and BlueNight.

Yes we did BlueNight said.

Why didn't you tell me? I asked.

I tried to but BlueNight stopped me Arianna defended herself.

Thanks alot! I said to BlueNight. She didn't say nothing. I rolled my eyes. I put two burgers on a pate and went back into the living room.

"I'm going outside to cook some burgers," I said to Night and walked upstairs. I walked out the door that brings me to the backyard. I opened up the BBQ, starting it up and out on the burgers to start cooking. The air smells good and fresh because of rain earlier.

I breathed in the fresh air, it smells weird for some reason. I walked away from the BBQ, and off the deck onto the soft grass. I felt energy going into me from the grass, the sun, and the wind. Like they are giving me strength for something bad that's coming. I got a sickening feeling.

Something bad is coming Arianna said fearful.

I agree I can sense it. We must be carful BlueNight added.

"Ya," I said out loud.

Can we go to Luke? I feel safe with him Arianna asked with a whimper.

I know you do I do to but we can't I said. He probably don't even know we are mates.

I guess your right she said with a sigh. I walked back to the BBQ. I opened the lid, the burgers aren't even halfway done yet. I growled in frustration.

"Why does this take so long?" I said. I stared at the burgers, thinking of heat and fire. Then smoke started to come out of the burgers and they started to actually turn into cooked burgers. I flipped them with the flipper. Two seconds later and the burgers caught on fire. I jumped and quickly places the burgers on a plate and patted out the fire with the flipper.

"Who thought a witch could burn burgers," I joked. I turned off the BBQ and grabbed the plate. I walked back inside the house. Mom is just coming into the kitchen with her purse in her hand.

"Hey Selene, are those burgers?" She asked looking at the burt burgers. I looked down at them then back to her. I walked over to her and put the plate on the table.

"Ya, I was planning on eating both of them but I guess I can share, you want one?" I asked.

"Sure," she said and grabbed a hamburger bun. Well I guess Night will just have to survive without a burger to eat. I grabbed a burger, put ketchup and mustard on the bun, and finished it off with putting the burger on the bun. I grabbed a burger and started to eat it plain.

"How was work?" I asked her.

"It was good, but I couldn't go to work until after the storm. But to more pressing matters," she said with a grin.

"Oh no," I murmured knowing what she is talking about, a talk I dreaded since this morning.

"So who's the boy you where working on the school project with?" She asked. I sighed, here it goes.

"His name's Luke, he just moved here," I said.

"Is he cute?" She asked with a huge grin on her face.

"Again I'm not twelve," I said, then quietly added. "And yes he is quite cute." She squealed, literally squealed. I covered my ears dramatically.

"Okay, okay sorry. Are you two going out?" She dared to ask.

"No we are not going out, we are just friends," I said making my point clear.

Ya really good friends Arianna said and I could almost see her grinning.

"Oh okay then," she said sounding disappointed. I rolled my eyes.

"I'm going to the hospital tomorrow," I said. I need to see Clara, make sure she is alright. Mom placed her burger down on the plate. Sadness and pity filled her eyes.

"Sweetheart you must know that Clara isn't going to wake up," she said softly. I almost dropped my burger.

"She is going to wake up! I know she is!" I said hardly, but the thing is I hardly believed myself......
