I knew he was special the moment I saw him

His eyes twinkled with an innocent wonder and his smile shone with contempt and joy. I first saw him lying in a sea of purple irises. His eyes darting around, as if expecting something wonderful to stumble in front of him. When nothing appeared, he would let out a soft sigh, walk to the shade of a tree and lean against it. His smile still plastered across his face.

I never knew what he was doing or what he was looking for, but it might have been that moment when I knew I had fallen for him. I wanted so badly to approach him, to talk to him, but I knew I couldn't, for reasons other than being nervous. I had always been taught that humans were creatures not to be trusted and I abided by that rule. It was a rule placed by others of my kind to protect us from falling for a human. I knew it was dangerous so I made sure he never saw or talked to me.

But maybe if I had gone after him, just maybe, I would have made him fall for me, the way he did for another.

He was wearing a white collared shirt and yellow pants when I saw his cheeks blush a rosy red. I had set my sketchbook down abruptly looking for the cause of his embarrassment, hoping that it was only out of joy.

I was crestfallen when, a girl came into my line of sight, standing directly in front of him. At that moment I wanted to jump out of my hiding place and run to him, and tell him that I was there. But the oath I had taken at the faery council bound me. They told us that if a faery turns into a human and runs out of magic they will die. So I was to not talk or approach humans until I was twenty five, or ever if I could help it. Yet as I stood staring at that girl, an emotion that I had never had before started to form deep inside my heart, and grow darker plunging my soul into a new realm that would scar forever.

Her name was Lauren. Lauren McNiel. She had luscious golden curls, sapphire eyes, and a radiant smile that could melt people's hearts. She was good-natured and kind to every soul she met, always trying to be friends with everyone. In every way she was perfect. There was never any doubt that Philip would fall for her. And yet even though I knew I had no chance, I tried to break them apart by doing things that I would later regret.
