By the time I lost the selkie and tumbled through the portal of Lauren's mirror, I had landed in a dusty old bedroom. I found out that they reached Canada a month ago. Philip had found work on the Whaves and earned money to provide housing and food. He would go out in the morning and come back late at night, while Lauren stayed in bed extremely ill.

I was there with Lauren on her last day of being human. I remember the exact date, March 17th 1838, the time I made a choice that would change my life.

I approached Lauren who stared up at me shivering under a thick woolen blanket. Sweat dripped down her face and every so often she would turn to the side and go into a fit of coughs. When I saw how weak she was and what I had done to someone who had been just like me, in love just like any normal creature, the guilt sunk through me and overflowed my senses. I don't know what I was thinking at that time but at that moment I gave her a decision. She and I could switch, I would turn her into a fairy in exchange for her humanity. The only thing in exchange was some power and her spirit.

Right away I knew she didn't know the downfalls of the plan since she smiled at me so gratefully. But doing that was more than I could give her, so I cut off a piece of her hair and connected the ends together forming a circlet. I channeled magic through it enough for three more acts of magic, and put it around my wrist. Then I touched her forehead and began the exchange. I pulled out a tea caddy infused with magic and opened it, still touching Lauren's head. I recited the spell as golden strands of magic wrapped its way around Lauren until her body glowed.

"I am the Westbury Faery, Give your spirit over to thee, inside this vessel you shall be, sealed by oak from your land, this I shall command." I fell to the floor exhausted looking up, as the tea caddy levitated in the air,  a blue wisp flew out of through Lauren's mouth and entered the tea caddy. It closed shut, and fell right on top of me. I stood up and stared at Lauren's empty body, I knew that somewhere far away she had become a faery without any memories of this life, just like how I wished before.
